Maradona brought politics into it all the time. He loved to taunt about the cheating, talked about football like it was revenge for The Falklands. Talked about the England team later on cheaters. He couldn't face up to reality and ended up getting lost in a world of drugs. He even ended up getting hated in other countries like Italy.

When in his physical prime he could kick a football around well. But I don't see how that's a reason for idolisation (except in Argentina where they are more desperate) when looking at serious matters like the hate that came from his mouth. And anyway even by 1990 people considered the Argentinian team more cynical than exciting.

When football was football. Not like the bore fest you get today.

A sizeable number of those who celebrate him around the world are anglophobic people as well.

What are you talking about? let the man rest in peace.

bots 26-11-2020 06:19 AM

for me its not about the person, it was about his incredible talent on the football field

Just look on the internet, from youtube to media websites. People are constantly talking politics about him getting something over on 'England' the country, not just football team. Which repeats in a general way how he talked. If he hadn't talked politics it might be slightly different at least.
