So that was the 1950s
A decade in which "The Blues" of Black America and the "Country and rockerbilly" of White America, would come together to create the birth of Rock and Roll. However, by the end of the 1950s Rock and Roll was dying out. Elvis Presley had joined the army, Little Richard became a Reverend, Chuck Berry was in jail, Carl Perkins career stalled after an accident, Jerry Lee Lewis was an outcast after marrying his 13 year old cousin and of course Buddy Holly died in a plane crash. And Ray Charles had now influenced Soul and Motown. Would Rock and Roll be dead forever? Or would this music influence a renaissance from across the channel? Find out in Legends of music the 1960s |
