...is the Umbrella Academy a good/worthwhile watch...?...

I'm in two minds when it comes to trans kids transitioning. There are examples of kids transitioning and leading happier lives for it, like Kim Petras, but the one thing that doesn't get spoken about much is that a lot of grown adults do end up regretting transitioning so if a grown adult that knows their own mind and has considered transitioning for years ends up regretting it, can kids make that decision for themselves?

I think where I settle on the issue is that, in some cases, kids should be allowed to transition but it has to be on a case by case basis. I don't think it should be particularly common since I don't think many kids have the capacity to make such impactful decisions at a young age, but it should happen in some cases, I think.

I think trans kids should probably spend their childhood seeing what works and what doesn't before they commit to a full transition. I don't think it's a process to be rushed into.

I have a question. If you take it as offensive then that's your problem, because it's not meant in any offensive way.

Just to clear this up for me, so that I can understand.

I assume that the girlfriend is bi? Because if she was gay, wouldn't that cause a bit of a problem in their relationship?

If not, the show is about time travel and Season 3 looks to be about the butterfly effects of it, they could easily just say that one of the changes in the timeline is that Vanya's male in the new timeline.

Well quite. Should be easy for them to work it into the storyline, assuming he doesn't want to continue playing a woman. Which may not be an issue anyway as..well actors are acting. They don't necessarily need the 'life experience' or actually having to be the exact same as a character in every way, or whatever in order to play a role. Else we would be paying serial killers and such fortunes to star in films!

But the amount of 'omg what will happen to Vanya?!?!' stuff I have seen on FB today is just insane. Not exactly the hardest circle to square here..they could do a few different things (especially given how the show is, I mean, they could even just have him randomly turning male when going through a portal or something!), depending on what the actor wants.

She would identify as bi (or pan, but whatever  ), if they stay together, yeah.

Stylistically and sheer fun-wise, yes... storywise... no. Don't go into it expecting things to make sense, because they take a lot of liberties with the plot and character development.

I agree with that(ish), I don't think the storyline doesn't make sense but it's a show to watch because it's fun/stylish more than "hard hitting". The second season found its stride more than the first, IMO. I suspect partly because it clearly had a significantly higher budget.

Oh I'm not against it as it's acting afterall, it's just gonna take awhile to get used to is all from my perspective.

I would say "welcome to the Patriarchy" but I know it's not really true.

If it was you who just changed the title from Elliot to a dead name, Alf, that's a pretty tasteless thing to do

MB. 05-12-2020 08:50 PM

Then again, I'd expect no less from a forum (and indeed a country) where transphobia is rampant

All because he found people not finding Katie Hopkins' funny "abusive".

I'll never understand why someones personal gender identity is such a point of contention to some people

Amy Jade 05-12-2020 08:58 PM

I don't get the title change?

thesheriff443 05-12-2020 09:11 PM

To be honest children Are raised according to their sex, boys get cars to play with and girls get dolls
And this continues as they grow up to what a boy does and what a girl does
So it’s no surprise that parents and their children growing find it hard dealing with questions of sexuality.

My opinion is people should be allowed and encouraged to live their lives as they see themselves.

Jarrod 05-12-2020 09:17 PM

I wasn't really aware of Elliot before, I've watched a few episodes of The Umbrella Academy but isn't really for me but I'm so glad they can now be their true self.

In terms of this thread/title, disgusting - have a bit more respect for him. What he's done is a huge thing and deserves nothing but support.

logged in and out twice to change a thread title what a baby

Black Dagger 05-12-2020 09:37 PM

I guess it depends at what point the girlfriend stops being attracted to Page. If Page doesn't medically transition, and/or doesn't experience noticeable bodily changes, then the girlfriend would still be a lesbian for being attracted to Page. But if Page does start to resemble a guy, and if the girlfriend is still attrscted, then she's bi.

I think the reality of choosing to transition when you have a partner must include accepting that they may no longer be sexually attracted to you. But also, you'd assume that anyone in a GOOD relationship would have those conversations long before any actual physical transition started.

You do of course get those who claim its "transphobic" for a lesbian woman (or gay man) to no longer be sexually interested in someone once they've changed gender... Which obviously is nonsense.

And then there's the elephant in the room even for those who are bisexual/pansexual; an attractive woman does not necessarily transition to being an attractive man, an attractive man does not necessarily make an attractive woman. And vice versa, actually; many look objectively better.
