It takes some brass ones to look at Leo Decaprio and think to oneself "yup, I'm gonna turn HIM into a legit actor!"

To be fair, Ol' Leo had some proper roles pre-Titanic, it's more that he was tarred with a "popstar blockbuster actor" brush because of the success of Titanic and a lot of critics expected him continue on that "poster boy" trajectory. These movies certainly helped him break away from that, though.

Tbf to Leonardo DiCaprio he has always been a decent actor I think, it's just Films like Titanic just don't do anything for me personally.

I really liked Shutter Island, I actually didn't realise that Scorsese did that Film.

Agree with your list but I’d swap around 1 and 2. For me, Taxi Driver is just the best movie I’ve ever seen to a point. An amazing character study of a movie.

Honourable mention - Mean Streets.

What do you wanna see?

Tarantino only directed 10 films and I've only seen 9 of them, so I couldn't do a top 10. The only other director I've seen 10 or more films of is Hitchcock. I could do his top 10 or I could do a genre or a decade of your or anybody else's choice.

Thanks ... a top 10 / top 20 gangster movies thread would be nice ..

Maybe some top 3 or top 5 threads then ...

Tarantino , Coen Brothers

Which one haven’t you seen Alf?

Tarantino has technically done 9, not 10 - Kill Bill 1&2 are classed as one movie. He’s doing one more (number ten) and then jacking in, so he says...

Tony Montana 28-12-2020 10:59 PM

Where the hell is Cape Fear?

Good, but not good enough for the top ten.

What kind of film counts as "Gangster?" I understand that mobster/mafia kind of films count, but does gangster also include films about gangs such as Warriors or A Clockwork Orange? What about organised crime films such as Reservoir Dogs and Oceans Eleven, do they come under the gangster genre?

Mmmmm I kinda just associate mobster movies with the mafia tbh

Goodfellas
Sopranos
Godfather

Maybe a separate crime thread excluding mafia movies and one for crime drama series ?
