disgusting, Emily in Paris was great,

Michaela Coel needs to denounce her BLM warriors right now.

...just looking at some of the nominations...lovely to see Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul.....but I thought that would have been a nomination from a previous year...also Al Pacino for Hunters......but James Corden for Prom is an odd one...is Phil Collins his dad...?...

:laugh2:

The only good thing about the Golden Globes was Ricky Gervais presenting it lets be honest

Yeah here are all the acting Golden Globe nominees (both TV & film)

It's probably worth noting that Emily In Paris/Lily Collins were competing in TV Comedy category. Comedy categories are often a lot easier to break into (Hence Sia's Music noms) - Not that it makes Michaela Coel's/IMDY snubs any better.

That does make it look bad, I think they just targeted the wrong person really

I love Phil Collins. He was so amazing the last time I saw him sing live

Awards shows like the Globes and Oscars are very political. I mean political in the sense that studios and channels have to spend money on campaigns to make their films and TV shows visible and get the attention of voters.

The Golden Globes have a reputation for nominating people they want to see at their ceremony.

I'm glad someone has cut through all the noise to draw out the important part of the story.

It's an unjust reaction to target the actress but Emily In Paris getting nominated is fairly ridiculous, as is the IMDY snub.

Nicky91 08-02-2021 01:47 PM

i liked her in that movie Abduction

the show brought the joy of an adventure in paris to many around the world. it was a true inspiration in these dark times.

This snub still isn’t as bad as Delroy Lindo for best Actor. One of the best recent performances I have seen, never mind of the year.

ive heard so many times through the ages, why wsn't so and so nominated, why didnt that wonderful picture win. I find the awards to all be meaningless drivel.

Yes but it's clear black women (and black men) but we're talking specifically about women here, are massively under represented. I think as a woman, I can certainly appreciate that, considering women as whole are so under represented in a lot of ways in that industry.

I would normally hesitate to lump in on an actress but there's no denying she's got where she is today because of the wealth of her father. She's been afforded so many opportunities others (particularly BAME) are not, and the end result is some terrible acting in a terrible show. I would feel sympathy for Collins if she had performed well, but Emily in Paris is absolute garbage of the smelliest and foulest order.

The Globes in particular have an extremely shoddy reputation for being bought (Ricky Gervais even alluded to it multiple times when hosting... you can shrug it off as a joke but he wasn't exactly "joking" about Mel Gibson being an alcoholic antisemite, or RDJ having drug issues, or Johnny Depp not caring about the films he's paid to star in). I do enjoy watching them because they used to be fairly accurate in knowing what to celebrate on TV, but ever since the streaming age came about they just seem to have been thrown completely for a loop.

It just makes no sense: Emily in Paris has a score of 58 (out of 100) on Metacritic, meaning it's been rated as a show even worse than "Warrior Nun" and "The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special" :umm2:

Literally everything that Ricky Gervais said in the last Golden Globes Monologue was true.

Just watched a show synopsis on YT, and I think I'll give it a miss.

Amy Jade 08-02-2021 04:44 PM

I don't really get why Lily is being targeted as they are in different categories. Michaela Coel 100% deserved a nod for IMDY but it feels unjust to go after one actress specifically.

As for Emily in Paris I really enjoyed it but it was fluff and I totally understand it'd detractors but I thought Lily did a great job.
