My dad loves (to this day) telling a tale from about 30 years ago, where he had recorded a Celtic game to watch when we got home from shopping, and a neighbour stopped him as we got out of the car to ask if he watched the game. He said no, and not to tell him the score as he was about to watch a recording... to which the neighbour said "Ahh OK I won't spoil it - but it was a boring game anyway, there weren't any goals".

This is basically his all-time favourite "dad story".

bahahaha That sounds like my mother. She was telling me about some film she watched and I said don't tell me the whole story, I might watch it sometime and she says "I won't, can I just tell you the end?"

No it’s a game of football. And given how theyve played so far, it’s highly unlikely to be an exciting one.

Dogeatdog 29-06-2021 12:46 PM

I mean I think they should tbh but then this is one of a few reasons why I wouldn’t survive at the top

non-essential workers yes they should be allowed some time off for this

as for essential workers, they can for example tell their relatives over the phone to record the match for later on when the shift is over (our tv providers in our nation got a record menu, up to 100 episodes of storage on that, idk what this is like with tv providers in UK)

I'm leaving early for it but will divert my calls to my mobile and log on when I get in so will still be officially working

rusticgal 29-06-2021 01:59 PM

I think if it was a semi final it would be a good thing to do...

We used to have a skeleton staff in the office to man the phones, and our boss used to just come to the pub with anyone who wanted to watch it, then he'd give the phone monkeys the equivalent time off when they wanted to take it. Worked really well, especially when you consider that clients were also watching it, so unless there was an emergency, nothing was happening anyway.

Yeah, we would normally do something similar but we are on skeleton staff because of covid so only me physically in the office today so I'm getting an early dart at 4 but will pick up calls. Can't see anything happening to be honest - have cleared all calls etc so barring an emergency I should be pretty undisturbed

bearing in mind the last 18 months you would have to be a right nasty pig to not let true fans watch it

Cherie 29-06-2021 02:33 PM

working class people not wanting other working class people to have an hour off

MTVN 29-06-2021 02:42 PM

Seems a bit mean spirited not to do so if it's a flexible work industry, not something that's really possible in a lot of sectors though

It was an observation. Not really worth getting sassy over.
