So I still don't have my taste and smell back yet which is the weirdest covid annoyance because it's completely blank, not like when you lose them with a cold and you still have some, it's just...nothing. I get chronic sinusitis with most colds and it's the same (zero sense of taste and smell, might as well be chewing on cardboard) and I hate it... it makes me genuinely miserable. I get properly down about it. But that usually only lasts 2 - 3 days, the longest I think was about 9 days (I got paranoid that it was forever on about day 6).

I can't imagine it going on for weeks/months :worry: ... I'd lose a tonne of weight and muscle mass... my wife has to remind me to eat when it happens because I just can't be bothered sitting chewing away on what feels like nothing. I end up just eating dry slices of bread or a handful of crackers because why bother making anything?

I definitely haven't lost weight, although I did lose about 1/4 of a stone from the week I had the full symptoms. Because I have such limited scope, I experimented with extremes in flavours, so I've been eating a lot of curry's, chips loaded with salt, bacon, and insanely sugared tea. I generally eat pretty healthily so it's not really an issue at the moment, but if they do go on for a an extended period of time, then I'll need to have a rethink about what I'm doing because loading up with fats and salt is going to screw me up long term.



It's pretty rare that permanent loss is a thing, but I can't be sure. I've read quite a lot about it and a few weeks after symptoms have gone seems to be a good marker, so I'm hopeful I'll only have another couple more weeks to deal with this.

Then that very day literally mid-meal at dinner I was like ":shocked: .... .... :shocked::shocked: ... I... I can smell it! I can taste the food!!!"

Ate like an absolute pig for a few days tbh.
