This is just about barely 10 years since the crimes of Saville came out.
Some of the victims were children in Hospital.

It's way too soon in my view.
Far too early to bring any of it up in the name of entertainment.

i take it no one complained about the steven lawrence drama?

All of SaVile’s victims were children ... hundreds of them ... many were poorly in hospitals .

Or the Nightstalker or the Rochdale grooming gang or countless other dramas based on real events

Who said you shouldn’t speak about it ?

I certainly won’t be watching it

Just don’t think they should be making a drama about him and his disgusting ways ... at worst it may give any perverted / deviant viewers ideas .

but a drama about say 9/11 is ok?

bots 28-09-2021 08:24 PM

i think the difference between saville and the other examples is that he was a prime time saturday night tv host among other things. It makes a huge difference.

I don't think anything should be shut up or not covered, but a large proportion of the public will find it particularly distasteful given it's Saville

I agree totally.

If one of my family had been one of Saville's victims.
I wouldn't want to see a drama about him on TV less than 10 years after it all really came out.

Plus the fact he cheated being made to account for or pay for what he did.

I just think it's way too soon.

You're absolutely right there in my view.

I think that's what's even more distasteful too Dezzy.

I would agree with this.

Wasn't the Rochdale drama all about the families and the girls themselves?

This seems like a "See Steve Coogan play Saville" type drama, that's going to hell HIS story from HIS perspective.

There is maybe a room for some kind of dramatisation of what happened, but this doesn't sound like the one that should be made. Maybe if we were further in the future, but it's still way too close. And, as already said, made by the company that covered up a hell of a lot for him it's not going to be an unbiased or truthful take on events.

Crimson Dynamo 28-09-2021 09:48 PM

The audience it gets will decide

rusticgal 28-09-2021 10:01 PM

It’s a difficult one….any dramatisation of real life crime/murder/abuse is a sensitive issue more so when it involves children. However I recently watched Steve coogan’s portrayal in Stephen very sensitively acted and I don’t think anyone would take on the role without the knowledge that it was told in a respectful way as we all are aware of the coverup that took place.

We will have to wait and see how this is handled, I think the BBC are right to take this on particularly given their culpability

Maybe it will help the victims in that their voices will finally be heard

We had dramas about Myra Hindley and Ian Brady and Fred and Rose West so its not exactly a new concept

Cherie 29-09-2021 07:22 AM

Alan Partridge star Coogan said: “To play Jimmy Savile was not a decision I took lightly.

“Neil McKay has written an intelligent script tackling sensitively a horrific story which, however harrowing, needs to be told.”

The makers of the programme were “working closely with many people whose lives were impacted by Savile to ensure their stories are told with sensitivity and respect”, the BBC said in a statement.

Had trouble getting him to leave???? Seriously How?.

I actually rewatched that CBB some time ago,and people think some of the housemates had a feeling he was a creep. Pete Burns said something along the lines of "he's got secrets he'll take to his grave" , which is so disturbing now .
