Honestly BOTS unless it's very different from school to school or has changed dramatically in the last couple of years this has not been my experience at all. My eldest started high school this year and her Primary School experience was extremely familiar to me as it seemed to be really no different at all to my own Primary School experience (in wonder years of 1990 - 1997). Quite bizarrely so in fact given the 30 year gap between the two. So little has changed :joker:.

Like I said though maybe that's not typical? My daughter did go to a rather "quaint" school where the "poverty line" was a lower-middle-class income.

Pretty much.

Beso 11-11-2021 02:38 PM

Do they say ho ho ho, or yo yo yo?

Glenn. 11-11-2021 02:43 PM

Why would they say yo yo yo?

Have you ever seen the movie Call Me Claus with Whoopie Goldberg? , it's a good movie . But anyway I liked how they explained to a child why Santa looks different, the real 'santa' mentioned even being a woman at one point . He's still the same person but he appears in different forms to people.

Which when you think about it makes sense , sometimes he's native Indian, sometimes he's Chinese ,he can be any race . Plus he's also a fictional character so why does it matter.

That’s not a ‘black’ thing though… white people say it too so I’m just wondering why that was your first thought

AnnieK 11-11-2021 02:55 PM

My son was an early disbeliever but he is in Year 6 now and a lot of his friends still believe. He knew never to spill the beans to his friends and is just quite smug in his knowledge
I don't believe in lying to him and so when he asked me the "is he real" question, I had to tell him the truth as much as it killed the magic for me.

So long as we don't mention Zwarte Piet. That's insulting apparently. but giving a Scandinavian a black face is okay. The most annoying this about this kind of crap is, I doubt it was a black person who came up with the idea. Disney, founded by a MASSIVE anti-Semite, but never even been considered for cancellation.

So you can't tell the difference between zwarte Piet and an actual black santa ? .

'Black Pete' is literally white people doing black face and not caring who they offend , oh and by the way anyone who disagreed with the 'tradition' got death threats.. ( how lovely eh) bet you didn't know that ?, there was silent protests around it .

Santa can be any race , he could even been a woman in a fake white beard ,why does it matter . plus they'll always be a million old white men dressed as Santa , that's the image everyone always sees .

What do you mean, I can't tell the difference? Bet I didn't know that? Who the bloody hell are you talking to?

Santa is a white man with a white beard who comes from the North Pole. That's the image everyone sees because THAT's what the image is. Try taking folklore figures from other cultures and making them white. See how it plays out.

Imagine getting so angry over a children's folklore
 Santa is fictional , did you also have a problem with the new little Mermaid being played by a black actress ? ,seen as originally she was written as a white Danish girl?.

I very much doubt that any of the great masters who depicted Jesus in art had ever set foot in Palestine let alone had any idea what a first Century Palestine man aged 30 looked like.

Cultures tend to portray prominent religious figures to look like the dominant racial identity and artists paint generally for likes and money...

go figure
