With internet / games / streaming services / smart phones there's just too much competition in home entertainment now for that to be viable.

Yea I think if the price was much better then ch5 would have kept it but they are currently having so much success from shows that they make themselves and are much cheaper so that is the probaly a main reason why they are cutting ties to use the money elsewhere.

Its interesting that Family Affairs had half the budget it spends on Neighbours yet had the same ratings

Tbf SCD gets 10 million viewers in this climate.

The Soap Expert on ITV1HD this morning
says it is still, possible it can carry on
if they find a new partner.
Another UK TV Channel.

She also said it due to end in June this year.

The scripts would need to make sure it can carry on.

Ch5/Viacom
are investing in UK Productions
Like the BBC Ditched Eggheads
so J.Vine now presents it on Ch5HD.

His own Topical Daily show that went from 9:15AM- 11:15AM
has added an Hour
so its 9:15AM - 12:15PM
with 2 New Guest /Celebs they pay less for,
as its only 58mins.

Also their 5PM news has changed to One Hour Long.
before it was 25mins.

Ref :Family Affairs

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Affairs

Original release 30 March 1997 – 30 December 2005

I am sure back then they made more than Neighbours
as it was well before the Bigger Multi channels & Netflix

So
Denver, not a fair Comparison.

I used to watch it at uni!

Redway 07-02-2022 10:42 AM

I forgot the show still existed. I won’t be mourning its loss.

Certainly has. She appeared in more episodes of Neighbours than any other character.

She is the Ken Barlow and Ian Beale of Neighbours.

Karl Kennedy appeared in the second most.

Alf 04-03-2022 07:27 AM

Alan Fletcher aka Dr Karl Kennedy was on Talk Radio this morning discussing this.
