The purpose of (good) debate isn't to change your mind during the debate, it's to explore a topic and spark new thinking so that you (hopefully) take the time to look into the claims made yourself at a later time, which then might change or add to your thinking on the topic.

Having your mind changed JUST by a debate isn't a great idea, because you have no idea how accurate the things the other person/people have said are.

Only exception I can think of is if you already on some level recognise that what the other side is saying is true, OR if presented with unquestionable logic.

If it looks like sh1t
If it smells like sh1t
You don’t have to taste it to know it’s sh1t!

Yes, I often have.

There's a fair few times on here even where I've altered my thinking on an issue.
From what others have said and presented.

Life taught me very early that most things are not all black or white.
There's loads of grey in the middle of that.

Sorting through that grey, is both educational and mind changing at times.
For me it is anyhow.
