Fury as SNP plans to hold leadership hustings to choose Scotland's next First
Minister BEHIND CLOSED DOORS after a string of gaffes by candidates - as
Humza Yousaf says he wants country to have a 'wellbeing economy'

Scottish politics exploded in anger today as the SNP announced it planned to
ban the public from hustings to choose the country's next First Minister.

The nationalist said that nine question and answer events where party
members can quiz the candidates had been designated 'safe spaces', with no
live television pictures or journalists allowed. :umm2:

Good on Kate
making the effort

That Times panelbase poll has only 45% saying who they see as leader from the choice of 3.

I do feel for the SNP because I like the Party overall.
However what a dire and depressing choice they are faced with here.

No wonder only 45% even have any preference at all.

During a series of interviews at a leadership campaign stop in Leith, the Scottish Health Secretary suggested that Bryson only pretended to identify as female but referred to the rapist as "her" and "they".

Salmond confirms Humza deliberately missed Gay Marriage vote

lied and then attacked Kate Forbes for having the same views

bots 03-03-2023 08:35 AM

I still can't stand Salmond, so i take everything he says with a large pinch of salt. Everyone knows the views and competence levels of the 3 leadership candidates. They are also smart enough to know when someone is lying.

As to the appetite for Scotland to have independence, it probably maxed out at the time of the last referendum, so, it will be difficult for any snp leader to increase that any time soon

I honestly think high-level politics has simply become so unappealing to people in the UK that we're never going to have decent leaders again. The options here are dismal - just as they have been in England since Cameron ran for the hills. All you'll get is either people who are barely competent but so keen to progress that they'll give it a punt (all of this lot, May, Truss)... or people who have ulterior motives for taking on the position for personal gain (BoJo, Sunak).

No actual competent, high-profile, tried-and-tested individual with any real political conviction is going to want these jobs.

Humza Yousaf, Ash Regan and Kate Forbes will not face an audience of sympathetic activists.

Nor will they be invited to give a clip for the news, the kind of soundbite which does not come with a serious interrogation of the content of the answer.

For the first time, nerves may feature as they realise that over an hour of live television in a demanding format could sink their campaign with a slip of the tongue.

Tomorrow, a clear frontrunner may emerge, or a candidacy could be sent to the knackers’ yard.

STV’s political editor Colin Mackay will ensure that answers which evade or are platitudinous, or embrace a love of waffle, will be punctured by a simple act of interrogation.
