I like a lot of the horror remakes. I also loved the reboot of Ghostbusters

Martin Scorsese did a remake of a film from Hong Kong called "Internal Affairs" Scorsese called his movie "The Departed"

It's the only Scorsese film to win the best picture Oscar. And rightly so, It was the best movie of 2006 in my opinion and that's saying something because Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige" was also from that year and that's a fantastic movie. I'm sure most of you have seen "The Departed" but if you haven't, then you should.

I don't like either version :hehe:

Alf 28-04-2023 11:06 PM

I wouldn't even degrade myself watching that woke version of Ghostbusters.

Some things are remakeable and somethings are not. And if you are gonna remake a classic from its time, then you better make it good.

Even Scorsese failed with doing this when he remade Cape Fear. I know some people like Scorsese's 'Cape Fear" but when you've seen the original then you can see the contempt.

Beso 28-04-2023 11:10 PM

I usually haven't watched the original of any remake, only one I can think of was the one I cant actually remember the name of any of them.

De nero, was in the remake though, on a boat with a solicitors family.

Wasnt bad. Probably better than the original.

Deep? I'm getting the word deep!

Alf 28-04-2023 11:17 PM

Can you imagine if they tried to do a remake of The Godfather, I don't think nobody would dare.

What if the tried to remake The Shawshank Redemption?

I did hear some rumbling rumours that a remake of Back to the future was being considered. Do these people have no shame?

MJF probably thinks it's his only hope.

(If hes still kicking that is)

Is he?

I understand remakes of classic films if you're making them in another continent, where these films are not as well known and loved. But even that is a stretch in today's World where the global reach is far much further than it was.

Tbf to the Ghostbusters remake, you can be a quality product and still be woke imo.

I haven't seen the Film either tbf, but I'm just putting a defense out there that just because a product is woke, doesn't automatically mean that it's bad.

Admittedly though if they've done woke stuff and the product is lazily made then I can see an issue.

And tbh I haven't seen either version of Cape Fear.

Beso 28-04-2023 11:25 PM

They did the, remake of the hills have eyes as well.

I, ashamedly watched both, probably 20 years apart

Beso 28-04-2023 11:27 PM

Cape fear..that was the one.

Like when superman got all woke and scared about what his powers could do.

Hollywood has no creativity left.

The odd thing comes out that's decent, but the overall Hollywood entertainment has gone to the dogs imo.

I saw him recently at some function or other on telly … he was sadly unrecognisable .

Hollywood is honestly terrible.

Not because of it being "woke" but because they can't seem to come up with a good idea if it slapped them up the face at the moment.

It's honestly a shame to see as I always depended on Hollywood for my Live Action content because the UK by and large were terrible for my taste, and I didn't wanna be stuck just watching Japanese Anime all of the time for my TV viewing habits.

I think that I'll have to bite the bullet eventually and just go with a Korean Show, I know that some of them do get rave reviews, maybe they'll know how to do entertaining Live Action content, along with the Germans on my two that I have experienced with them.

bots 30-04-2023 07:22 AM

hollywood has never come up with a good idea, that's not what they are about

Well tbf The Matrix, Minority Report, Saw 1, Star Wars.

They're all Hollywood Movie concepts that were well made imo, and entertaining to watch if you like their style.

Sadly the quality in Hollywood is dead nowadays, I can accept the fact that nearly everything that they make nowadays is an adaptation, but the flatly written characters, the poor plotting, bad pacing, and general lackluster vibe is what is doing me in with modern Hollywood at the moment.

you managed to name 3 films in a 20+ year period. If that doesn't prove my point, what does :smug:

Well if we do count adaptations then The Dark Knight and some of the other Superhero stuff were really good a few years ago.

For me Hollywood stuff has really hit the ****ter since 2018, and it's not really looked back since imo.

James 01-05-2023 10:59 AM

Hollywood films in the last few years have been all about the franchises and known IP.

It's just too difficult for original ideas to get an audience.

Alf 01-05-2023 11:34 AM

2019 was a good year, then the Covid thing happened.

Joker
1917
Le Mans 66
The Irishman
Once upon a time in Hollowood.

All from 2019.
