Over to you.

Im not arguing with you, i know we disagree on a lot of things in general. But you don't see my point?

If 5 million people just said "no" and didn't pay, what can the BBC do? Can't put them all in prison.

Do you not think the BBC in the way they force tax on people is draconian? I do.

You think the BBC are too right wing, from what i read in the GL thread, others think they're too "woke and left". Me? I just think they're a scam.

Give us a choice. Stop paying. Watch them shake it up.

GiRTh 11-03-2023 09:46 PM

Agree with most of this.

BBC like the NHS is a behemoth, its deeply flawed in its management but its an institution and here to stay.

Just watching this they need to put this on BBC2 in the early evening say 8pm every Sat...they can continue with MOTD if thy want, I wonder if this is why they didn’t use the intro music, they might be considering it

Livia 12-03-2023 11:07 AM

I'm not sure who the pundits think they are, but I thought last night's MOTD was great without the inane rumbling of inarticulate ex-footballers.

It was awful.

You couldn't really follow the action with full knowing of who was in possession of the ball at times.
It was a mess.

I do think the analysis discussions go on a bit too much sometimes.
However this was a disaster.
Terrible.

It was like watching a totally inexperienced production trying something out.
Just really awful in my view.

bots 12-03-2023 03:10 PM

The BBC could just terminate the contracts of all of them and employ a new bunch that will be all too willing to take their places. If it goes on past this weekend i can see that being what happens next

Surely you dont stand by this comment. It was awful. In the first game there was a VAR decision and it was unclear as to which team had got the decision.

Agree completely with this. Particularly the bit in bold. It was amateur hour and completely unacceptable given the mandatory license fee.

Dont spend my license money to give me something I can watch on YouTube for free.

GiRTh 12-03-2023 03:34 PM

I think the BBC may have inadvertently shot itself in the foot with their response.

After watching the sorry episode of MOTD put out last night I started to question how much BBC content do I consume for the mandatory license?

I don't watch Eastenders, I can get the news anytime, only things I watch 'live' are Sports, Only Connect, and Dragons Den. Everything else I record or watch on iplayer. Why do I have to pay this license fee, when I use so little of the service but if I don't pay I get threats of further action? Also, if I watch iplayer on a laptop, it's virtually impossible to know if I have a license or not.

This scandal has bought to life the inadequate scheduling of the BBC. If you look through the more obscure channels you will find good content but I'm talking about the mainstream channels and the flagship programmes. If the BBC was an optional paid subscription I'd almost certainly cancel it.

i pay a TV licence so i can legit watch live broadcasts on other non terrestrial channels. No other reason, so all this crap really annoys me. I shouldn't be paying a licence

True. The BBC should be like any other paid subscription service that you can cancel.

James 12-03-2023 04:43 PM

I've stopped watching live TV altogether apart from the occasional live football match, and the World Cup when that was on.

I look at the BBC News website about once a day, and I use the Weather and Sport sites.

I actually thought about cancelling the TV licence to save money, but decided it would be too much hassle.

I watch YouTube and Twitch instead mostly, lol. I also watch the occasional show on the streaming services.

joeysteele 12-03-2023 05:22 PM

It's apparently 14 minutes tonight.

I'm giving it a miss, it was so bad last night.
They may as well just show the goals in the news rather than put this mess on like last night.

Crimson Dynamo 12-03-2023 05:28 PM

it got a huge audience last night

lol

MTVN 12-03-2023 05:36 PM

BBC made that deliberately crap last night as a stunt, even with no presenters they could have had the theme tune and different commentary

I love the BBC in general and think it's a great institution but this has been a bit of a shambles

joeysteele 12-03-2023 05:48 PM

It got around 500,000 more watching last night likely just to see what they'd do after all the news coverage.

I thought a great deal more would have tuned in to see.
That was quite a modest increase.

Wished I'd stayed watching Dusty Springfield on the other station.
Because last night was excruciatingly bad from the BBC.

When the total audience normall is a measly 2 million then half a million is a huge increase
