I actually think all of this is still important, not in terms of public opinion, but as a signal to politicians themselves ... and that's why it's important that we don't just say "meh that's history now" and forget about it, because that's what they're banking on with the whole mindset.

The mindset of course being "one rule for me and another for thee" - the expectation/assumption that they can set strict rules for the public they represent, and then smugly sit above those rules without fear of any comeback that isn't easily dismissed (or forgotten entirely once they're out of the spotlight).

A terrible situation that should never be allowed to happen. Taking various opinions about the rights and wrongs of social distancing/lockdowns out of the equation entirely, the important thing here is parity. They should either have stuck by the rules they signed off on themselves, OR they should have had fewer/less strict rules for all. It's the "you can't do it but we can because..." that needs addressing. If there are clear consequences down the line for politicians, then in future, other politicians might at least think twice about doing the same. Not that they won't still do it... but less is still something.

so you dont care that he was partying at Chequers with friends and family while people were denied access to their loved ones in person to say their final goodbyes, not to mention all the other liberties people gave up :bored:

He should have been leading by example

Boris Johnson ditches
government-appointed lawyers for Covid inquiry

[Boris Johnson will no longer work with
government-appointed lawyers for the
Covid inquiry, after he was referred to
the police over further potential rule
breaches during the pandemic.

Allies of the former PM said he had lost
all confidence
in the Cabinet Office,
which handed over the material.

The Cabinet Office said officials had
been obliged to disclose the
documents under civil service rules.]

We really don’t know what he was or was not getting up to .. I do know that hundreds of thousands also broke the rules though

He’s an absolute Angel compared to Trump who could well be president again soon ..

I don’t think Boris is any worse than anyone else in politics .. sad state I know
