Complaining about any other person (male or female) commentating when Sam Matterface is employed, is ridiculous.

To be fair to Hansen who was of the best players to play the game .. nobody expected that United team crammed with youngsters to be so successful so soon because nobody at that time realised how brilliant they were ..

…I’m going offline so I’ll leave this big debate that nobody will talk about…I do feel though that so much of the OP wasn’t conducive to opening up discussions on equal terms of respect…the language and terminology used in itself is just not good and quite diminishing of females, sadly…

We don’t know anything about these women and as such they get about the same amount of respect that any woman dragged off the corridor and put in front of the cameras would get .”

I don’t know what person male or female who likes this bludgeoning phenomenon of women ‘experts’ smothering our beautiful game

Rant over

The Slim Reaper 29-01-2024 01:23 PM

Apologies for Ammi's rant, zeez. You know how emotional these chicky babes get :smug:

Sexism at its finest.

Women ruining "our" beautiful game

Women shouldn't be allowed to box.

Guess we should all just stay in the kitchen waiting for the hunter gatherers to get home?

If you don't want to listen to the girls commentating, mute the TV and find alternative commentary. Its not hard.

Zizu 29-01-2024 01:35 PM

I simply shared my opinion and also explained my reasoning..

I was hoping to get some reasonable conversation/debate on the topic

Apparently not …

The mods can shut this thread down if they like ..

Annie .. I like you a lot

Have you really read my opening post and the reasoning ?

I’m not ignorantly blurting nonsense out for the sake of it .. like many blokes are doing

I’ve explained my thought process

Edit

I don’t like women fighting because they’re more at risk .. why criticise me for caring ?

If I had a grudge against women per se .. I’d be advocating women getting in the ring with flaming weapons ..

No one and nothing is worse than Lee Dixon and/or Steve McManaman on commentary. Give me any woman in the world over those two!

However, there has been a massive influx of women doing commentary and punditry on men's football over the past 2 or 3 years and it's all because these companies want to show their political correctness. It's quantity, not quality and ticking all the right boxes for these major broadcasters. Most of the women shoehorned in really aren't that knowledgeable and saying some absolute ridiculous stuff. But the big "however" is that most of the men do too, and always have. Emma Hayes is someone who stands out for me, i like her a lot. And Kate Abdo as a presenter who i think is an excellent presenter. Not many blokes stand out for me really. I guess Carragher is alright, as much of a knob he's been in the past. Erm, yeah see i can't even think of male presenters and pundits who i care for tbh.

Women on men's football doesn't bother me. 95% of male and female pundits and commentators are meh.

Swan 29-01-2024 01:45 PM

I always liked JT as a pundit, but any spare time he has after coaching, he's probably out shagging other players wives, and in the bookies.

i don't think anyone has explored the angle that having more women involved in sport in general, not just football, opens sport up to 50% of the population. It's a simple fact that having female involvement opens the sport up to being accessible and acceptable to women. 2 guys arguing about the size of their dicks as pundits, just doesn't cut it

You’ve probably hit the nail on the head !

It’s quantity rather than quality !!

Sue Smith for example on Soccer Saturday seems very knowledgeable and makes more sense than Gabbie Agbonlahor or Jamie O’Hara .

Thing is those two guys are RARELY seen on our screens as they are useless..

Clearly these types of men don't want it opened up to women though but you're spot on, great point

I have read your opening post and have had this debate with you before. Women who have played the game have as much understanding of the game as the men. I honestly don't understand why you feel it is ruining the game when as others have mentioned Sam Mattaface is employed to commentate. :laugh:There are loads of men I dislike who commentate but i wouldn't accuse them of ruining our beautiful game.

My Dad rarely listens to TV commentary - he mutes the TV and listens to the radio commentary as he finds it better. I am sure there is something you can do so you can still enjoy the games where there are female commentators.

With regards to the boxing - anyone who gets hit in the head over and over runs the risk of concussion. The women who compete train for years in order to compete and will be fully aware of the risks

I did explain.. I simply don’t know how good they were as players or how qualified they are to comment .. the same principle applies to male or female

Then do some research on them.....

What is your opinion on Sam Matterface? He hasn't played at premier level and so you don't know how qualified he is....yet I don't see threads on him ruining the game. The women have pretty much all played for prem league clubs and quite often for the national side so know the game

The Slim Reaper 29-01-2024 03:14 PM

Matterface is not very good, as others have pointed out.

You seriously think you can tell how good someone was /is at football by checking on YouTube ?

That was the MAIN point I made .. I watched the current crop of pundits / commentators playing for 10 to 15 YEARS .. after all those years of top class football/ training and coaching they received- they all know what they’re talking about .

 why have you watched all the men in person? O4 have yiu watched them on Tv?

Karen Carney for example had a 18 year playing career.....including arsenal. Chelsea and England. I'd say she was pretty qualified and so your comment in the op where you said the women deserve the same respect as someone pulled off a corridor is pretty insulting to someone who dedicated 18 years of her life to the game.

Comments like that is why you feel you are getting attacked for sexism because that reeks of it I'm afraid

I watched all the ex players on tv obviously ..

You simply can’t compare 10 years of watching them week after week on telly with a 5 minute clip on YouTube - playing at a far lower level !!

It doesn’t matter how much experience she’s had if I’ve never actually seen her play or know what the standard was ..

The ‘corridor’ comment was a throwaway remark that applies to males or females .

I think you are just being deliberately obtuse now ..tbh

No I'm not being deliberately obtuse at all. I have a different opinion to you and you seem to struggle with that. Anyone who has had a different opinion in this thread you have accused of not reading the OP correctly.

Just because you haven't seen someone play does not mean they are not qualified to do a job they have been hired to do.

If you want a debate, you have to be open to other opinions. Your throwaway comments are pretty off, yet you accuse me of being obtuse???

As a female lifelong football fan (I knew the offside rule before I could walk as my Dad and brother are football mad, my Dad played then took his coaching badges and then refereed when older and my brother was at Man U academy with the class of 92 but was dropped) my whole life revolved around football. I think it's amazing that women are now more represented and other girls don't have to feel like a tomboy for loving the game

The point is that many people feel the same a as I do .. the women pundits may well be qualified ( at a certain level) but I don’t know that for sure as I never saw them so I can’t take them seriously ..

If they wheeled in some ex male footballer that I didn’t know then I wouldn’t take him seriously either so It’s not gender thing .. if they had some bloke sat there who we’d never seen we wouldn’t take any notice of him either

It really is that simple
