My colleague lives in Luton. She says is much cheaper in there and it's only half an hour by train. Sounds good to me?

No, not yet. Not until I find something suitable.

Vanessa 21-02-2024 11:22 AM

I'm considering moving either outside London or in the zone 6 areas. They still have the trains.

That's nothing, when I lived in London I lived in Zone 3 and it took me 35-45minutes to get to work in the morning. Luton may as well be in London imo plus there's an airport there

Yes, I think it's worth considering.

But it's Luton. C'mon.

Bedford?

I was thinking a studio flat.
I'll try with the council as well. That will probably take time, but worth a try.

…big changes, eh…and yes, it’ll give you much more choice outside of London, Vanessa…I know that you like to travel around in your down time/on your days off…?…so maybe travel out to some of the surrounding areas and see which places you like and check out what’s available their in terms of rental costs and also what the local amenities etc are…?…let us know how it all progresses, yeah…/…and good luck, you’ll get just the right thing…..

I've seen bedsits in my area that are close to my workplace and looks really nice. Might go for something like that.
And bills are included.

A bedsit wouldn't be so bad to stay local if that's what you'd prefer

….see what you feel is best…. (and affordable…)… for you, Vanessa …there is obviously some huge positives in staying in an area you know and feel comfortable and familiar with, also…when you see the place that’s right for you, wherever it is…?..you’ll know it feels right to go for it…

Its because I work early mornings. I'm
worried I could be late if I live too far away?

Yeah I know what you mean, extra sleep is always good too

I'll have to save some money for the deposit. But I've seen some nice studio flats for around a 1000 pounds a month.
I can afford that. And i still have housing benefit.

My colleague has a car, so they drive from Luton to London. But the train isn't very reliable.

…I’ve seen that in my local area there are ‘no deposit’ rentals, I don’t know if that’s a thing for you also…

I'll have a look in my area.

Yes, I want to get on the list.
I'm hoping a flat from them would be better. Private renting is crazy right now.

Private landlords have always seemed a bit dodgy to me ,so I think the council will be your best bet.

I know it's very expensive in general , especially in London. Which is why some people relocate cities as well.

I'll probably move next year anyway. I've seen cheaper places in a nearby area.

I'm going to stop my home broadband. Waste of money anyway.

Moving out sounds great, and rents will be cheaper but you have to weigh up the cost of train travel in and out and also because you start so early if the trains will be running, I think you work alot of weekends? Maybe your colleague in Luton would consider a car share if you work the same shifts they might welcome the sharing of fuel costs, but then they might not always work in the same place, bear in mind as well when flats come up they go quickly in the area we moved from they were queuing round the block to view some flats, you have given yourself plenty time to make the right decisions for yourself.

I'll have to save up for a deposit. So won't be able to move out for a while.
But I think Alperton is better. It's near my work and a nice area.
Luton I think too far and I don't have a car. Train are unreliable.
