So i watched the original last night, it honestly felt like it was a completely different film to the remake. The plot was a little bit more believable for it's time and Dalton seemed more like a 3 dimensional character in the original I thought. The original seemed more like a character/plot driven story to the remake where it felt more like the characters and plot line was there to accommodate the fight and actions scenes. The one thing I didn't love about the original was the female characters and how women were portrayed in it, very background, decorative, boob shot people. It was of it's time I suppose though.

Anyway, i'm not really sure which I preferred, like I said they felt like completely different films rather than an original and a remake, I liked them both for different reasons

There's nothing wrong with that imo.

Tbf, I haven't watched either version, but I do like Jake Gyllenhaal, and I did like some of Patrick Swayze's Films.

Yes but as long as that's not the only purpose of the female characters in a film, but it was the 80's, I think film has gotten a lot better in recent years for fleshing out it's female characters, thankfully

Actually, I'm going to say I preferred the remake, that's probably an unpopular opinion but it was more fun and I enjoyed the fight scenes more

Haven't seen the new one, but just love the original one. Yes it's an old movie, but Patrick and Sam Elliott

The new one is very different, you'd barely realise it was a remake if they said nothing and gave it a different name imo, you should give it a watch if you have prime and tell what you think

…I didn’t mind the remake, it was quite fun because it wasn’t a serious storyline …but I don’t recall lots of detail with the original…/…as in any differences …I do recall, though that the bar owner in the original was male…(…I think…)…and that changed to female for the remake…2024 has realised that WOMEN CAN BE BAR OWNERS TOO…not just be offered to have someone grope them in bars for $20….….

Pretty much all the actual characters in the original were male bar the Dr he had the relationship with and the bar maid played by a very young looking Patricia Arquette

I love Jake Gyllenhaal, so I would probably like the new one as well.
But for me nothing beats Patrick Swayze in kick ass mode

Vanessa 26-03-2024 03:32 PM

Another great one is Point Break.
Patrick was so good as the bas guy.

The fight scenes were much better in the remake and Jake is in serious shape

Patrick was hot in the original and so is Jake. I've always fancied him :fan:

Oh yeah love Point Break, now there's a film where the remake was absolutely awful and paled in comparison to the original

…Jake Gyllenhaal was quite handy because he generally got them to medical help quickly after he broke their bones or worse…he let them know that they’d be ok…(…unless they wouldn’t be ok…)…

…I liked it because he just seemed to be having fun himself…although it was obviously quite a physical role ….so fairly much hard-ish work and tough going…was that physique just for the role or is that his general self…is he always that level of body fitness…?…it was so perfect that I thought maybe it was computer generated or drawn onto his torso……

I saw an interview with him and I think he did a lot of work for it, specific training and diet to get that shape to look like a Martial artist. He was in a film where he was a boxer, Southpaw a few years back and he was in great shape for that too but he looked like a boxer rather than an MMA fighter, so there's obviously differences for the type of physique he was going for

He's a great actor as well and really quite method in his approach.

I suppose it'd be nice to get paid to get in shape though

…yeah, his shape/physique and Patrick Swayze’s were quite different, I thought…but I don’t know which was ‘more accurate’ to an MMA fighter…

Vanessa 26-03-2024 04:06 PM

I found Point Break on YouTube. Will watch it later

Don't think I've seen that. But he's one of my favorite actors. He's so good.
