The funny thing is that I am viewing it from somewhere on the centre right and I was genuinely happy when I saw so many of the senior members of the previous government slung out on their asses one by one. They let the country down and they paid the price

Labour are / will be just the same the crossover will be seemless .

i actually disagree. People have forgotten just how low Boris brought everything down. If even 1 or 2 of the new governments cabinet prove to be in anyway competent, it will be a huge improvement over what we had under Boris and beyond. Everything in politics under the tories since Boris has been a huge drama. If we can go a week without constant bickering among tory mp's it will be like living in a new country

arista 06-07-2024 07:19 AM

Today PM Starmer
is doing his first cabinet.

Then we are to get a press conference in number 11
media room.

That's very fair of you bots and it is sad for me to see usual Con supporters feeling so let down by their usual Party.

I'm only 32 but I doubt post war, has there ever been such a dysfunctional term of government since the one just ended.

I hope my Party will succeed in the main
I'm looking for more fairness, justice and compassion all along with I hope to a demonstration of more competence now too.

Starmer is not my choice of leader however I think he has the chance to surprise for the better.
That's my own hope anyhow.

Plus to see really dealing with serious issues the Nation has, ending the far from entertaining circus that was brought to an end on Thursday.

you are just falling for a narrative. Illegal immigrants couldnt give a crap who is in power. It's only an issue if they get caught, and most don't get caught

Labour’s last time in power .!!!

As I recall they left our finances in a proper state and from memory it meant the Tories had to get creative and borrow/ spend even more for a time -to avoid a catastrophe

Government debt under labour 1997-2010

Government debt under Labour was a major factor in the elections of 2010 and 2015. But to what extent did the Labour government plunge the economy into debt ?

•1997/98 – 40.4% of GDP
•2007/08 – 36.4% of GDP
•2010/11 – 60.0% of GDP.

Budget Deficit
The level of Net government borrowing at 2011/12 prices
•1997-98 – £ 7.8 bn
•2007-08 – £ 40.3 bn
•2010-11 – £ 145.1 bn

There was a worldwide financial crisis sparked by the banks in 2008.
That hit America, hit acrisd Europe and over to Asia too.
I notice you omit to mention that.

A global financial crisis mostly due to recklessness of the Banking industry.
Which no one, not even the international expert financial institutions including the IFS never saw coming.

However yes that's how it ended up in 2010/11.

I notice too though, you avoid commenting on the years after 2010/11.
When Labour wasn't in power.
There on the chart showing how things got far worse under the Conservatives.

I said that the financial situation was so desperate when labour went out that the Tories had to spend their way out of a disaster
