Yes even worse
many are angry with the lack of proper warnings So many go swept away to death, as the Water Flash flooded |
My best friend and his husband moved to Spain earlier this year - I really miss him - luckily they're not too near the flooding but they have suffered terrible, violent storms in the last couple of days.
|
The Junta were too slow releasing warnings and a text message was sent too late, many of those who died were on their way home from work

Elimination of the UVE: A political decision that cost lives during the DANA in the Valencian Community
Introduction: The recent DANA (Isolated Depression in High Levels) has devastated the Valencian Community, leaving in its path a trail of destruction and numerous lost lives. In this context, the removal of the Valencian Emergency Unit (UVE) by the government of Carlos Mazón, in coalition with Vox, has been harshly criticized. This political decision, driven by the PP and Vox, has been cited as a key factor in the ineffective emergency response. Context and Background: The UVE was created by the previous government of Ximo Puig with the aim of improving coordination and response to natural disasters. However, in 2023 the new government of the Valencian Community, led by Carlos Mazón and supported by Vox, decided to dismantle this unit. According to his arguments, the UVE did not bring significant improvements to existing emergency services and represented an unnecessary expense. This decision has been viewed by many as a political move rather than a measure based on efficiency and public safety. Impact of DANA: DANA has caused havoc in the Valencian Community, with rainfall exceeding 200 litres per square meter in some areas. The resulting floods have caused significant material damage, evacuations and, sadly, numerous human losses. Affected citizens have expressed frustration and desperation at the magnitude of the disaster and the response from the authorities. The lack of a specialized unit like the UVE has been evident in the disorganization and slowness of the response. Critical Analysis: The removal of the UVE has been heavily criticized, especially in the context of the recent DANA. Experts in emergency management have noted that UWE could have significantly improved coordination and speed of crisis response. The absence of this unit has left the region vulnerable and ill-prepared to face a catastrophe of this magnitude. The political opposition and numerous citizens have questioned the decision of the current government, accusing them of endangering people's lives for political motives. Conclusions: The recent DANA has highlighted the importance of having specialised units in emergency management. The removal of the UVE, a political decision driven by the PP and Vox, has had tragic consequences. It is crucial to learn from this experience and consider reinstating the UVE or implementing alternative measures that will ensure an effective response to future emergencies. Political decisions should be evaluated based on their real impact on the safety and well-being of the population, and not based on partisan interests. No political party should plaster this people as wonderful as the Valencian! It's time for us not to be afraid to demand responsibility to whoever it may concern, both left and right, all they want is confrontation of ourselves for political gain. |
