Please take into account what Kiz and Dr are saying... it's not an awards just for black people - each time you post that it is, it makes the rest of your argument void.

It's for music from black origin - this could involve using patois in the lyrics, it could involve grime dancing... ANYTHING... all of these things could come from white people, but the origins of this (patois, grime dancing etc) is black - from the slave trade era.

White people can win the award, it just so happens that not many white people are in this genre. Thats not racist. The award is for everyone.

The MOBO's celebrates a type of music, a genre, just like a genre of rock or pop or classical. Its where the music came from.

Because it has the word black you consider it racist???

I have to say this has got to be the most ridiculous discussion I’ve ever heard.

The MOBO were started due to a number of black musicians being disillusioned by the fact that few black artists were winning BRIT awards. The MOBO’s are yet another attempt by black people to redress the balance. So to all those people who want to start a MOWO awards, I’d say there already is one isn’t there? It just doesn’t have the word ‘white’ in the title. In fact the BRITs started the ‘Best Urban’ category in an attempt to address the accusations that were being aimed at them.

Are you aware of apartheid and the segregation that existed in the past. There were White only sections in restaurant and on buses. Sorry, but I fail to see anything funny about setting up a white only scholarship given the struggle that the freedom fighters had in trying to get rid of white only segregation. Personally, I don’t agree with white only or black only in any way shape or form.

What a ridiculous statement and as a black man I know exactly how ridiculous it is. Where exactly do black people have control over the world because I’m sure a lot of black people would like to move there. As I said above, in the past there was segregation and white only sections. I think you’d agree that is racist. Anything that you label as black only is merely an attempt to redress the balance.

Secondly I agree with what you say. There should be no balck or white only anything, it creates division and stops us those of us that are normal people accepting of each other regardless of colour just getting the hell on with our lives and enjoying each other for what we all are, PEOPLE.

I haven't read through all of this thread but to answer the question simply, NO is the answer.

It's music of BLACK ORIGIN, it's not specifically black people only, as Amy Winehouse and others that are not black but make music of that genre won awards. There's no debating of "oh if it was white awards" etc, it just can't be compared in any argument about race, because white people as a race have never and never will suffer racism to the magnitude of what black or Asian people have and still suffer from today, although obviously not on such a grand scale. I'm not saying white people can't be the victims of racism, but as a race the white people (of which I'm one) have never suffered, have never been seen as the lesser human beings and have never been in a position where they don't have power.
