Yeah! Every second line with us lot is 'lol' or 'lmfao' or 'pmsfl'

Sometimes it has to be used so not to insult anyone,it hard to convey emotion on msn.

Some people - and they know who they are - way overdo the LOLing. I do it but only when I think someone will misinterpret what I'm saying. I think the mods should ban it on the forum.

I forgot to add that, sometimes I use 'LOL' on msn to insult someone like when they say something stupid then I say 'LOL' but it mean 'You don't even know how stupid you are'. But the person actually doesn't know that haha.

Yeah that's how I use it, if I think people might take what I say seriously or literally, rather than explaining afterwards, putting "LOL" makes it obvious that it was tongue in cheek ... or I just post "".

Chatting in the virtual world of the internet has disadvantages. One being that you cannot see the other persons expressions. Another being you cannot hear the tone of their voice. Sayng lol of PMSL for example shows others that you are laughing at their post. Using a smilie works equally well. I may reply to someone, for instance, and say "what an idiot"! Putting lol after this or using a laughing smilie, shows I am saying it in jest, and not in a serious way. Without doing this, other members could misinterpret what I was actually saying.

I agree with this and Baz's post too. Sometimes you have to be careful because even though people say they are having a laugh, so quickly things can get ugly. So it's best to overestimate the fact that you're joking.

I hate most abbreviations...
The only one's im guilty of using are one's to do with laughter, such as:

LOL, ROFL, LMFAO.

But that's only because there's very little alternative, besides saying to someone "I am now laughing"

I hate the abbreviations the emo's seem to abuse, such as:

OMFG FTW! SAFE BRUV!

They seem to like impersonating gangster talk a lot, when they're actually middle class white people.

nd u cnt elp bt h888 pppllll hu tlk liek diisss n dnntt kno dey luk abit stoopid.

If you can type properly, then abbreviations don't save any time at all...
They just make you look like you skipped far too much school.

Or SKEWL as they seem to call it.
