I decided to delete my last post in here after re-reading what Spike said. I thought you were saying that religion is pathetic. Saying that relgious people are "pathetic" is maybe going a little too far.
|
All in all no one really knows one way or another what's true.
Probably why religion needs faith and Science needs theories. |

I would rather not believe and go to hell if it is true. I'm not wasting my time on believing in anything which can't be proven. Like I said people who believe good for them, it helps some people but I think religion is stupid and should be forgotten. |

but if you dont waste your time in beliveing something that cant be proven, then there is nothing much to belive in |

If people believe, they do believe. Who are you to call them "Common Sense" less? |

Spike, I can see what you are trying to say but calling us 'stupid' and having less common sense is a bit too far and can offence people. I'm a bit shocked to see how can people be that intolerant instead of respecting each other.

No, I'm agnostic.

I have very strong opinions on religion... i wont express it here. But I will say that whenever i see religious people i am honestly shocked that people still believe in it. 2000 years ago I could understand =/ Personally I think it is an escape of people being frightened of the truth.
(I said I wasnt going to express my opinion but I did anyway lmao) Edit: And to the people saying "Nobody knows" it has SO been proven that god doesnt exist people just choose to ignore it and the pope will change things about so that it sounds like god did it, he had a clever way of getting round the evolution fence. |
Personally, I'm not sure as to what to believe in at the moment. I'm inclined to believe in it (because that's the way I brought up), but there's still so much more to contemplate, and I'm only young yet.

Religion is the ultimate hard drug. Its followers are a confused bunch who choose to only believe in certian segments to suit their tastes while in fact they know absoloutely NOTHING , for the most part.
Their is no such thing as a religious child , only a child born to religious parents. A child cannot decide such things as their choosen faith. Religion is doing more damage in this day and age than the moral code it apparently intends to uphold. Im humanist. I believe in what we can see. The goodness of people and the planet that is supporting our life. I do not think their is need for a religion. I think people find comfort in assuming their is a god. But what is 'god'? If I told you to believe in a flying spaghetti monster , would you? Probably not , but why? Is that not as plausable as 'god'? Christianity depends on one thing : Did Jesus really rise from the dead and ascend in to heavan? Unfortuneatly , nobody ... NOBODY has the answer. So we should all stop devoting secular servitude to the non existent. By the same token , being an ignorant , unrespectful , hardline Atheist like Spike is not much better. Forget religion and lets get on with our lives , I say. And hey , if their is a god , wont he FORGIVE us? |
No but I sort of believe in God ...
I don't particularly follow the religion though and I've not been christened but I do have a set of rosary beads, they make a good accessory  |
Relegion is proven to be healthy and I think it is a good thing to have a faith.

Quite a number of scientists have or had a religious faith, such as Newton, Dalton and Kelvin.
It was faith which prompted many to study the world and become the early pioneers of science. Hardly stupid people As for proofs, I refer you to the Anthropic Principal, developed by atheists, in there you can see the hand of a designer. I certainly did when I first came acros irt, in it's various forms in the 1980's |

Sticks, you posted this in answer to someone asking for proof.
"Religion 'linked to happy life' Belief may make us more contented A belief in God could lead to a more contented life, research suggests. Religious people are better able to cope with shocks such as losing a job or divorce, claims the study presented to a Royal Economic Society conference. Data from thousands of Europeans revealed higher levels of "life satisfaction" in believers. However, researcher Professor Andrew Clark said other aspects of a religious upbringing unrelated to belief may influence future happiness. " Can I just say that is not proof, but opinion. "may" "could" "suggest" and "claim" are not words usually associated with "proof" |
