ok,sorry

Ross 22-10-2008 07:49 PM

I cheated on my ex girlfriend when I was 16/17 and it was fun at the time, we ended it a few months later but not because of that, although I did tell her I cheated on her. Now we're really good friends.

I weren't having a go, you probably know more than me, loads of people here would've, but I wasonly statingthat its almost like you're experimenting when you cheat so that's what I meant by my statement.

Just out of interest. How would you react if your girlfriend was having an affair or had sex with your best friend, lets say?
Erm horribly... like everyone else. As I mentioned, I was a different person when I was 16... its something people do at 16. At 19 I am a little wiser than that!

I underlined that statement Fom.

I'm afraid I must disagree. When I was 16 I never cheated and I know a LOT of others that are very faithful and I'm sure you do to. You can't just pick an age and say that all persons of that age are going to cheat, it simply isn't true!

I agree.
I totally believe you were a different person then to now, but I'm sixteen and I've not cheated on my bf? Plus there are loads of people in their 20s/30s who cheat.

Jake! 22-10-2008 07:57 PM

There's different reason's for cheating. I never have, but I'd never say never...

I am using the age of '16' as a general, I never stated as a fact. And as my own experience, cheating was a common occurrence from that age, yes some are faithful, but at 16 you are experimenting and to be in one relationship and not get urges for someone else can be tough. I couldn't be in a relationship at 16... you just cant tie yourself down at that age.

I'm a much different person than I was when I was 16. Quite frankly if I was the same person I'd be dead. Basically everything about me has changed. Just because you're a similar person doesn't mean other people haven't drastically changed.

I understand that you feel 16 maybe too young to pick one person and tie yourself down in a serious relationship, that I will agree on. Even though I won't tarnish every 16 year old with the same brush, as that is simply not the case. Many people find love at 16 and never part with each other. But this discussion is about those who may cheat and cheating is not the same as not settling down with one person, is it?

You can be 16 and be with a girl for two weeks and then dump her and find someone else, but you don't have to cheat on her, do you? You can be ethical and end one relationship and then start another. Many dumpings happen by text messages these days.

I do understand that some 16 year olds will cheat as well as many others at older ages, but your generalization of most 16 year olds is rather unfair.

I don't understand what you mean!

Why would you be dead if you hadn't changed the way you were at 16. Were you are bad person then?

If I hadn't killed myself through my lifestyle then someone probably would have killed me for the person I was and how bad/spiteful I could be to some people.

So your perception of 16 year olds brings back bad memories of what you once were. You see life today through calmer eyes.

Z 22-10-2008 10:43 PM

I don't think so, all cases of cheating have a different set of circumstances. Some people cheat because they've fallen in love with the person they're cheating with, others like the thrill of it, others can be seduced in a one off, or a long running relationship.

So based on that, I don't think you're always a cheater if you cheat once.

I don't assume everyone was like I was- they definitely weren't! I just think that people can change a lot and so can their attitudes towards others. So I think its possible to change from someone who used to cheat a lot to someone who is committed.

Well anyway, I'm glad you picked yourself up and became a better person. Some people say, "Lock-em up and throw away the key", but some say that bad people can become better later on in life, some not so later in life like yourself.

I think what Fom was doing was generalising an age there. I cheated as well when I was 16 and 17. And looking back I was like wow I was a cow. I didn't do it because I was 16 and I was like "ooooo this is the cheating age better do it while I still can" - thats not what Fom is saying either.

We are saying that you do things when you are younger and you grow up and learn from it and showing that "Once a cheater not always a cheater" like the debate was to begin with.

NettoSuperstar! 23-10-2008 10:53 AM

Omg what you do at 16 has little bearing on the how your going to be when you grow up! Believe me. Id be dead now also if I still did the dumb things I did when I was 16, and you dont know always know what its really like to hurt someone by cheating on them at that age, until you have a bit of life experience and wise up

I know how it feels to be 16 Annie, I crossed that bridge at the time and never felt the urge to cheat with anyone else. I had a girlfriend then and it lasted for a few weeks and as it wasn't working, it was over. Neither of us cheated during that time and after we split, we both found someone else.

You admit that you were a cheat. So perhaps that is why you think MOST 16 year olds shall do exactly what you did.

Annie 24-10-2008 12:47 PM

^^ Microscope

I hardly admitted that I AM A CHEAT! I said I had cheated in the past. And most 16 year olds will go through something along the same lines. I am not saying everyone will but most people who are in active relationships (aka more than your 2 week relationships) will cheat on their partner.

Sunny_01 24-10-2008 09:49 PM

I am with Annie & Netto here, I cheated when I was a 15/16 but met my husband at 17 and we have been together ever since without any cheating (to my knowledge lol)

What we do when we has little bearing on what we do when we are older.
