I really like Jeff's version, along with Alexandra's but Kate Voegele's version is pretty good too, IMO :) I prefer Alex's though because it reminds me of her winning and how emotional she was. :)

I think the title of this thread is an insult to Jeff Buckley.

I'd say each of us have a preference for a different version of the song, but that in no way means that any of the artists are over-rated.

The same goes with Snow Patrol/Leona Lewis and the song "Run". Everyone has their preference, and some people like both.

I personally enjoy most of the versions of Hallelujah, but Jeff Buckley's version is the one I find the most emotional.

I don't think that the 'power' in which a song is sung is defined by the strength of the voice. Jeff Buckley's version is spell-bindingly haunting. His style of singing the song really adds to the mood and presence of the song (which is actually about the 'joy of orgasms'). Alexandra's version is amazing, but in a different way to which Jeff's version is.

I think though that in 50 years times people will look back and say "Oh, Hallelujah - that Jeff Buckley song" not Alexandra or Leonard Cohen's.

Personally, I think Alex and JLS both murdered a great song. I kind of liked both version up to the point of the key change where they airlift in the big production. There are many quite profound lines that are totally buried by the big production.

The songs going to make a lot of money for a lot of people but Jeff Buckley must be spinning in their grave and I wonder of they'll ask Leonard Cohen how he feel about the version considering it took him almost a year to write the original..

I wouldn't go so far as to say Jeff Buckley would be spinning in his grave. After all, he's not the original artist, so who's he to say how it should be done.

Most musicians will have their work covered badly at some point.

I think he may well be spinning in his grave. He may not be the original artist but his version is considered the definitive version.

Some musicians dont allow cover versions of their work and its easy to understand why when you hear this over produced , chart friendly, money making version of a great song.

My impression was that alex at least gave the song ooomph, but the JLS version was drudgery! I dread to think what egghead would have sounded like. :dance2:

Just listened to Jeff Buckley's version (who I hadn't heard of before this week), and thought it was pretty average, Alex's is better IMO.

I might have liked Alex's version if it wasn't for the typical X Factorisms such as the key changes and the gospel choir. I don't mind the first minute or so when it's just a guitar with Alex's vocals but then it gets ridiculous.

The song is supposed to have "oomph" it is not a new Girls Aloud song, its supposed to build up quietly

Imagine if they gave "Time to say goodbye" some 'oomph'....*makes sure Simon Cowell isnt lurking

My opinion is

Jeff Buckley > Leonard Cohen > Imogen Heap.

Musically, Jeff Buckley tops most, if not all, of them. Multi-octave voice and haunting vocals. But obviously I accept others see it other ways.

I really dislike Alex's version, not because of her singing, just because of her style.

Both her and JLS' versions were terrible. The problem is the key change which signals the arrival of the strings and the choir and the kitchen sink. Without that both X-factor versions would have been quite good.

I hate how some people are so far up Jeff's bum with this song.

Fair enough if you like the song, but you don't need to start acting all defensive and rude when someone doesn't like his version or prefers another. It's funny because there are some people who act like this, yet probably have never heard anything else from Jeff and act as if this one song is the biggest masterpiece ever made.

(Obviously I'm not aiming this post at everyone who said his version was the best in this thread, just those who can't admit there are people who may not have heard of it/or like it.)

Saying Jeff Buckley is overrated is an opinion.

If the thread were entitled "I think Jeff Buckley is overrated" or "Do you think Jeff Buckley is overrated?", then there might not be such responses.

That's just my take on it anyway.

And, I haven't ever heard any other Jeff Buckley stuff. As far as I'm aware Lauren is a big fan though. :thumbs:

Like I say, it's the wording of the thread, more than anything else.

After all, it's an opinion, which everyone is entitled to, but it was put across as fact. Or at least that's how I perceived it.

I mean, I've got the Grace Legacy Edition album and it's amazing, but because Hallelujah's got so much press coverage atm people are bound to jump on the bandwagon.

If anything, I think Jeff's underrated.
I don't see much praise for his work in the real world as opposed to reviews/online.
