It's completely automated by the looks of things. If it finds you have a banner over the 550x350 limit (which yours is) it'll cut it off.

I was going to ask for a function for people to turn it off, that way people who want it on can keep it on. I personally don't mind big banners, its better than having half of it chopped off. Really messy imo.
Then keep your banners within the size limits :nono: Haha. I like viewing signatures, but I hate when they're massive cos it breaks up the forum and takes ages to load.
Yeah, but being a graphic maker myself, I know how much better it is to use a bigger canvas. It's no excuse to break the rules, but I can see why some banners are so huge. It gives you more space for creativity. And it's better than having some anorexic rectangle placed beneath your posts.
Why not - once you have finished the banner - resize it down within the limit? No-one will notice the difference. Or design the graphic wider rather than high.

I guess that's true. But I still stand by my point, I only have one banner down there. That's less than the rule of two banners with 5 lines of text if I remember right.

Resizing banners makes them look AWFUL. Fact.

I agree. I mean, just look at the ridiculous amount of space Damon's banner takes up when the whole thing shows (click to enlarge):

This is how it looks without it:

(To clarify, my screen resolution is 1440x900)

If anything I think the limit should be reduced, not increased.

At the end of the day, there have been limits in place for all the time since I've been here at least. If you make a banner that's out of the limit, then you can't really complain if part of it is hidden.

It's a tad annoying.. but I'm used to it now..

When I made my last banner.. it was humongous (The Danny Jones one), then I just resized it so it was 330 height by whatever width.. :)

MarkWaldorf 22-12-2008 03:17 PM

I go back to my point, maybe a function for people to turn off, or turn it on. That way each sides get their way.

Mark/James said making an on/off function takes ages. I asked them about the snow option, and they said it takes ages and they would rather be working on other things site wise.. x

Not if you resize them smaller in a graphics program.

Really? It takes ages to add an on/off function?

Quite long yes.

MarkWaldorf 22-12-2008 03:27 PM

Fair enough. Well I hope the suggestion can be considered.

Locke. 22-12-2008 03:32 PM

Stick by the rules and keep your banner(s) within the size limit then, if you do that then the 'Show full signature' button shouldn't bother you.

MarkWaldorf 22-12-2008 03:34 PM

Even when the banner is just a few pixels bigger? That's the problem with a few people here. The chopping off is unneeded if it isn't even that much bigger than the limit.

If you make a banner that's bigger than the limit, even if it's only by a matter of pixels, then you should expect it to be cut off. The limits have been in place for ages.

It's only now that this button has been brought in that people are complaining - but if your sig isn't over the limit then it wouldn't be a problem...

But come on, is my banner that much over the limit? I could have three banners down there and 15 lines of text. That would be VERY over the limit.

Mine's hardly a rule breaking offence!

DamonJ 22-12-2008 03:43 PM

And someone said earlier that they'd rather spend their time changing other things on the site.. how come there's never a noticeable different? So they're changing discreet pointless things instead of what the members want. It's silly.

The limit is 550 x 350px. Yours is 512 x 412px, and so therefore it is 62px over the height limit.

Like it said, it's almost certainly automated. The script wont stop and think, "oh right, this banner is only a few pixels out so I'll let it off" - it will be programmed to hide anything that is over the limit, which in this case is 350px high.

EDIT: I'm wrong actually, the limit is 550 x 300px, so your banner is 112px over the limit.
