Fears are growing that a deadly human strain of 'swine flu' that has claimed 81 lives in Mexico has arrived in Britain. A British Airways cabin crew member yesterday complained of 'flu-like symptoms' midway through a flight to Heathrow from Mexico City, where the virus first surfaced. Last night the unnamed man, understood to be a British national, was in isolation in a West London hospital and was being treated by staff trained in infectious disease controls. Earlier, panic spread throughout Mexico, where those who died were reported to be the first victims of a pandemic with the potential to kill millions. Experts said the virus posed the biggest threat of a pandemic since bird flu began to spread in 2003. That has killed 256 people in 15 countries.

Rest of the article here

I'm not that concerned at the moment, but it does sound quite serious.

Any thoughts on this?

It is 3 way infact

Pig /Bird /Human.

So you have 3 mixes of Flu.

Avoid anyone returning from Mexico
tell them you will catch them in 2 weeks if they are alive.

If you feel ill go and see your Doctor. OK so who will treat the Doctors when they become sick?

Good point

LOL

There is only one way this doesnt spread and thats to stop Mexicans From entering this country and to stop planes/Ships going over there

Andy it is not that simple California has it as well
and NY.

A reporter on SkyNews said
the trains are all running in Mexico
claiming thats how it spreads fast.

We need the MJ masks
for whenever you need it.

One sneeze of Death.

If caught Early
they should be able to stop it fast.

Quite some interesting comments too about the whole thing...

Quote:

There is a sense of chaos in the other hospitals and we do not know what to do. Staff are starting to leave and many are opting to retire or apply for holidays. The truth is that mortality is even higher than what is being reported by the authorities, at least in the hospital where I work it. It is killing three to four patients daily, and it has been going on for more than three weeks. It is a shame and there is great fear here. Increasingly younger patients aged 20 to 30 years are dying before our helpless eyes and there is great sadness among health professionals here.

I think there is a real lack of information and sadly, preventative action. In the capital of my state, Oaxaca, there is a hospital closed because of a death related to the porcine influenza. In the papers they recognise only two people dead for that cause. Many friends working in hospitals or related fields say that the situation is really bad, they are talking about 19 people dead in Oaxaca, including a doctor and a nurse. They say they got shots but they were told not to talk about the real situation. Our authorities say nothing. Life goes on as usual here.
It sounds quite worrying really that the authorities are not telling the truth but I still dont think people over here should be concerned.

arista 26-04-2009 06:03 PM

Unless they have returned from Mexico
of course.

You can get the Truth on Sky News.

arista 26-04-2009 06:48 PM

From Sky News Live
Canada has confirmed 6 people with Swine Flu.

I hope they get meds fast
and stay alive.

HeatherTWx 26-04-2009 06:51 PM

Some people have been admitted to Monklands Hospital in Aidrie in scotland with the flu-like symptoms.

(according to aol.)

Good News on those 6
the anti virals saved them.

What I fine odd about this is that its a combination of pig, bird and human flu... Surely something like that can only be created in a lab not just naturally.

Swine flu has always existed, just never been a big "thing". I guess during the bird flu epidemic it mutated.

What I find weird is that some experts have said this combination would reek person-to-person infection (which is potentially massively deadly). We've heard some tales about person-to-person infection too... yet "WHO" are saying it's not.

I'm hoping they're telling the truth rather than preventive panic measures, cos if it's person-to-person - the affected radius is ever spreading.

Also, the anti-viral won't help in the long run. Obviously we need to use it to save lives, but the more instances it's used - the more the virus can mutate and beat the immunity.

This is the Pig-Bird-Human Flu.

Stay away from infected zones.

What there saying now is that they might be some other causes, or another virus in Mexico that (at the moment) has only led to deaths there. But theres just so much confusion at the moment.

Lauren 27-04-2009 04:42 PM

They're offering too many alternative explanations. For example, like you said - they've said they think there's another illness in Mexico which is why it seems more deadly there.

BUT then in the same press conference, the "WHO" release info that they don't think they have another virus in Mexico, and it's just because there's a higher incidence rate over there that it seems more deadly... and if Europe had as much cases here as they do there, we'd have deaths too. So which are we to believe??

arista 27-04-2009 04:46 PM

Yes watch Sky News
then you get the truth of this Mutation Flu.

If they stop this that is good
if they do not another host can jump into the Deadly Mix.

Would make a great Film.

arista 27-04-2009 05:35 PM

From SkyNews Live

Scotland has now confirmed 2 cases of this Swine Flu.
They are responding well to treatment
but who else did they infect since returning to Scotland?

Lauren 27-04-2009 09:44 PM

Well ****.

"The World Health Organisation has warned countries to prepare for a full-blown pandemic as it raised its alert level and conceded it was now impossible to contain the virus. "
