But it's not the tenth anniversary! |

BB started 2000.... THE FIRST ONE
Someone born 2000 isn't age 1 till 2001...............jesus:eureka: |
You don't seem to understand that the tenth year isn't actually defined as the tenth anniversary.
The tenth anniversary is after the full 10 years. Therefore next year is the 10th anniversary. |

Do you think it would be less confusing to have "BB's 10th Anniversary" during BB11? |
I just bet you were one of those people who argued about the actual date of the millenium celebrations back in 1999/2000 werent you?
Gavin, could you answer one simple little question which county do you live in mate? It so i never visit there, never, not ever, not once, zero/nil times |

Here we do talk in years the show has been on, therefore it's the 10th year of the show. Wooo at least you learnt something new today. |
Series - Year
1 - 2000 2 - 2001 3 - 2002 4 - 2003 5 - 2004 6 - 2005 7 - 2006 8 - 2007 9 - 2008 10 - 2009 11 - 2010 Get it? |

But it is not the tenth anniversary. Jeez. |

To me, it means an annual event marking a date at which 'something' happened. Tenth anniversary of marriage = married 10 years. BB 10th Anniversary = tenth series OR ten years since the show began. What's so hard? |

Suppose you were married in 2000. The tenth year of marriage would be 2009, but the actual tenth wedding anniversary would be 2010. Hence, a similar rule applies regarding Big Brother. This is the tenth series and tenth year of being on air, but the tenth anniversary is next year. |
Gavin is right, next year will be the 10th anniversary, but this year is the 10th year the show has been on air.
It does annoy me that they've been calling it the '10th Anniversary', but seriously, just get over it. I have, so I'm sure you can too. I'm celebrating this year because it's the 10th series of the show, which makes more sense than celebrating 10 years since it first began anyway. |
Ok so start an online petition to get everyone to call it the Celebration of the tenth series Mr Pedantic

I think we have the audience from Countdown on these boards.

But the fact that Channel 4 are claiming this is the tenth "anniversary" highlights how stupid the people working there are. |
Quote:
Do you understand now? If it started in 2000 it's been on 10 years (INCLUDING THE YEAR 2000). |
Quote:
you are right, the 1st anniversary isn't till after the first full year..so it is the 9th anniversary this year |

But by saying "we're celebrating the tenth anniversary this year", they are wrong. |
No one is disputing the fact that this is the 10th series or 10th season or 10th year that Big Brother has been on the air including the OP.
However, I am amazed at how many people argued that this is, in fact, the 10th anniversary. I am equally amazed how many people think that the definition of anniversary changes if it is not referring to a person. I hope, for the sake of the UK's future, that you guys were taking the piss and didn't really believe your arguments were true. |
