I'll have to respectfully disagree about Tim Burton and his team, I thought Sweeney Todd was excellent and Big Fish was endearing. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was....unfortunate.... But I think the new Alice looks great. He uses Helena and Johnny a lot in his films but that's because they suit the feel he tries to go for.
On the issue of the soundtracks, it's common practice really and for me personally it's more about the film that what merchandise will come from it. |
I didn't say all his newer films were bad. And Depp and Helena are excellent actors, but as Stu was saying, it does not always gel right, and they can't be used in any old format.

The only two artists I really like from that soundtrack list are The All-American Rejects and Franz Ferdinand - but to be honest...
take a look at the last Johnny Depp/Tim Burton jerk-fest. Willy Wonka. That was all kinds of ****, and were you really expecting anything different from this? Let's face it, it'll be a hit with 15 year old girls who think that just because Depp can walk a bit weirdly, he has depth and charm. I predict it'll be ****. |
Yep, dunno why Disney are killing a classic by re-writing it in a totally pointless way.

I'm only really interested in it because of Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry's involvement. I do like Helena Bonham-Carter too, but she too falls under the "omg i have weird hair loooook" category.
|
She does a cracking Bellatrix Lestrange and Marla Singer. Not nuts about her apart from that.

It might not be as good as the hype surrounding it but I'll be surprised if it turns out as bad as Charlie was. |

Being dragged to see CATCF 5 times didn't help my fondness for Burton :( and as for Depp...well...I hated the last two Pirates movies. But he did SOME good stuff [fear and loathing / once upon a time in mexico / that one with cristina ricci as the gypsy]

I like it a lot. I don't love it yet the way I do some of her songs, but yea it's pretty good.
|
'The Best Damn Thing' is one of my favourite albums ever.
But that was ****ing painful on my ears. She needs to tone it down. |
I was expecting it to be a much darker film as well.
Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll sounds interesting. I'm sure Manson would pull that sort of thing off wonderfully. |
ummmmmm
|
I really like it actually. Love Avril.
|
From what I hear, Avril's song WILL feature in the actual movie but the rest is just the score.
