Dermot banters with the judges in the same way that Ryan Seacrest does.

Dermot is fking lush, by the way.

cub 18-10-2010 02:38 PM

Simon Cowell was a nobody in the US until the first episode of American Idol.

Simon, Cheryl, Nichole Scherzinger and another US celeb + Dermot sounds like a winning combination to me.

Crimson Dynamo 18-10-2010 02:39 PM

His radio show is also great.

Dermot is very good and because of that it looks easy so people think "I could do that" they then get mad that they are not doing it for loads of money (even tho they could not) and then hate on Dermo.

moral: he is good but you are just jealous

stewart64 18-10-2010 02:45 PM

I think the bloke is a good MC. He's pretty anonymous and doesn't try and take the limelight, the acts and the judges are very much the stars of the show.

Who do you want for Christ sake, adolescent antics from Ant and Dec.

What utter BS. You love Dermot, we get it.

But as a presenter on XF he's has been bland and forgettable. Seriously, he has hardly been mentioned since he took over. His attempts at bitchy banter with the judges always falls flat and looks awkward. The way he suddenly SHOUTS out things in a growly voice is cringey. When big stars come on his little interviews with them look clumsy.

He's just not great at the job. Just about competent but nothing special or essential to the show. Could replace him next week and I doubt many would even care...or notice!

Dull dull dull. And he stinks at announcing results.

Just backed up my previous point, he is anonymous and that's good. We don't want want to be cringing at ant and Dec or a senile Bruce Forsyth (Strictly) who think they are bigger than the show.

But they ARE a huge part of the show. They actually bring something to the experience. They add, they entertain.

Dermot brings sod all. He's an anonymous link man.

Livia 18-10-2010 03:05 PM

I don't like Dermot. I used to like him on BBLB but he gets right on my nerves on X Factor. I hate the way he calls everyone "Buddy", and how he does that handshake combined with a blackslap/shoulder bump that hetero men do when they also happen to be tossers.

cub 18-10-2010 03:08 PM

I wish he'd call me 'buddy'. Preferably preceded by 'bum'.

If Peter Andre does it, I rest my case on the "tosser" comment.

Hey LT :-)

Hi :-)x

I expect that Dermo (who I like and is better than KT) may say "dude" and "bro" too

I expect he says those things too. He probably also calls films "movies" and biscuits "cookies".

I like him better than KT too, but really, that's not saying much!

Zippy 18-10-2010 03:25 PM

If the show had a presenter with personality who actually entertained us inbetween the, mostly awful, performances you'd soon appreciate what a great host can do for a show.

But on XF we've only had Kate and Dermot so viewers just don't know what theyre missing out on. A great host ADDS to the show and often makes viewers watch the show JUST to see them. Thats what great hosts are all about.

Dermot is not a great host. Mr likeable but dull. Thats all he'll ever be. BBLB was his ceiling.

I don't disagree with you. It occurred to me on Saturday that I never notice the link guy, I decided that was a good thing and we didn't get any irritating distractions. But agree he adds nothing to the show.

She did the links more competently than him and certainly a better job with the results.

But Im comparing dull and duller here. Neither bring anything to the party.

Dermot is poor.

I hate how they did the results too.

Crimson Dynamo 18-10-2010 05:13 PM

Zzzz lame excuse.

All presenters have stuff going on in their ears ffs.

Does that make them dull and incompetent? No!

you are not getting it. this is a live show, interactive with many breaks. songs are sung live and interviews are live too.

few could do what dermo does so well

what a depressing thought.

People just accept bland mediocrity.

Dermot's rubbish at the job. I like him as a presenter, I think he's a good guy but he's not right for the X Factor. Konnie's crap on the Xtra Factor too. I don't want to see Christine Bleakley take over the job. I'd rather see someone who actually knows how to present, can multitask presenting with listening to instructions and can convey the necessary suspense needed for the results to make them entertaining.

well said.

I actually like him too(surprisingly after me slaughtering him) but he is just not big enough for the job.

He was perfect on BBLB coz it suited his more personable and intimate personality. But it gets totally lost on a big stage and he's suddenly Mr bland nobody in a suit.

Definitely; he's clearly a people person and takes an interest in getting to know the acts and I do feel that his interviews with them at the end of a performance are genuine conversations, but he's not good at presenting on a big stage and he definitely does become a bland nobody up there.

Tom 18-10-2010 06:21 PM

I think Zoe Ball should make her big TV comeback on X Factor

Like who? They cant have Graham Norton, doubt Jonathon Ross would do it. Dermot is about as good as they're gonna get. Please dont say any of the following Vernon Kay, Caroline Flack, Davina McCall, Fearne Cotton etc. they're ll totally unsuitable.

Vicky. 18-10-2010 06:55 PM

Meh, I can give or take dermot. But yesterdays results show was horrendous.

Tom 18-10-2010 07:08 PM

I think for a male host Steve Jones would be good, very similar in style but more likable and less serious

Ew no. Too smug and I hate how he does that sarcasm thing all the time...it reminds me of Ashton Kutcher and thats no compliment! He'd be just as dull as Dermot.

robb 19-10-2010 04:41 PM

Didn't like the way Dermot virtually shoved the blonde one from Belle Amie off the stage after the sing off......

Barbie 19-10-2010 04:56 PM

Its the producers shouting in his ear, But aside from that, i really dont like him, so so annoying

And the blonde one is annoying.

Ant and Dec are great hosts, they can smooth over production errors easily and add a bit of humour to whatever show they're presenting. Personally I'd like to see a relative unknown take on the job. I know it'd never happen, but somebody with the personality of Ant and Dec and skills that are up to the job would be ideal.

GiRTh 20-10-2010 12:00 AM

Ant and Dec would be good but you have to wonder they must have been asked and why they arent already doing it. The only other one I can think of is Scofe but he may be a bit too long in the tooth.

Graham Norton would be perfect but of course they cant have him.

Because you mentioned Graham Norton, I thought of other talk show hosts like Parkinson, Paul O'Grady and then settled on the Loose Women cast and just burst into hysterics at the thought of Coleen Nolan presenting the X Factor. :laugh2:

The Loose women would be hilarious. Sh*t but funny:spin:
