You'd better be joking! That means they could easily see me putting my peppers through as onions!

Kinda defeats the object if they're manned by cameras anyway

well they dont have one person watching each self serve till

they have one person watching one screen with several self serve tills on it. Then if somebody looks suspicious they focus in on that person and check that the items on camera match whats listed on their screen.

Life In The Fast Lane.

That drives me mad, arista, I spend longer there than in a queue and getting through a normal checkout, plus I don't really like to support the self serve checkouts as it's obvious they are closing normal checkouts and therefore staff may be eventually losing their jobs because of them.

50/50

It all depends on where I am and what I am doing.

Vicky. 14-06-2011 11:32 PM

Until today, I would definitely have said self service, I usually find I am a lot quicker than the checkout people.

However, I used the ones in morrisons for the first time and nearly actually screamed at the thing this afternoon. They are ****ing awful. everywhere else they are fine.

CharlieO 15-06-2011 01:46 AM

Self service because I'm scared of people.

King Gizzard 15-06-2011 01:48 AM

Human being as long as theyre over 40 and female. I genuinely look down the checkouts till I find one. Checkout people your age or thereabouts is so awkward.

Not all checkouts
just 30% in most cases

I didn't say all checkouts but I can see the day that may happen, the ASDA store I use where I am at present, has 32 checkouts,it always had well over half operating up to last year, now they have 24 self serve checkouts and rarely more than 10 of the normal ones operating.

30% however is nearly a third, and that over the Country is a fair number of people not seen to be needed now as only 1 and at best 2 people stand with the self service ones to assist..... eventually.

Oh my God ikr? It sounds dirty in a way too if you think about it. :laugh2:

That and when she like starts yapping "HOLD ON THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THIS ITEM. I'LL JUST CONTINUOUSLY SCREAM THAT UNTIL EVERY MEMBER OF STAFF RUSHES OVER.". :bored:

I never use self-service, I already have a job.

Supermarkets already make a massive profit, now they want to cut people's jobs and have us do the work for free? I don't think so.

That's what I think too,I don't have a job as such being at Uni but I do see the self service checkouts as doing the Stores work free for them.

Jords 15-06-2011 02:13 PM

Self service :D

You are wise far beyond your years, joeysteele :-)

Zippy 15-06-2011 04:05 PM

Doing their work for them? Running an item over the glass is hardly work. In fact its no harder than loading it onto a cashtill conveyor belt and then bagging it yourself at the bottom end. Easier if anything because you put them straight into the bag. Plus you can check that the right prices come up.

But the part about losing jobs is a valid point.
