This is of course ignoring the most common use of swear words - frustration, anger or emphasis - rather than the sole use of insults. I'm all for the likes of "I think Shaun is a massive dickhead" being infracted (:p) but saying something along the lines of "I ****ing hate cricket" isn't offending anyone other than busybodies. I mean who can honestly say, hand-on-heart, on here, a Big Brother forum, that they're offended by the F word? You can say it's unnecessary (but then, most words are), but I think people who take offence think they should be offended, or are merely acting upon an already-established dislike of the offending member's profanity.

Possibly. But throwing about the C word for the hell of it.... that's beyond acceptable. I know you don't think so ;)

I do, and I'm not alone in that thought.

They could be gleaning the information about BB if you are referring to that specifically, from the site, from newspapers, from magazines, from their friends.

If they are doing that, and swearing is given free rein on Tibbs for example: and they are not surrounded by that in their normal lives outside of the forum: where do you expect them therefore to pick up the bad language......from the forum.

It really is not that hard to figure out surely?

Stop nit picking im speciically talking about the BIG BROTHER section of this forum.

Obviously if they are commenting on here then they are watching the show so stop this rubbish about them not watching it on tv but instead reading about it coz everyone on here who comments WATCHES the show

Oh I'm not nit picking. I'm stating something that cannot be ruled out.

The point is daniel-lewis 1985. The forum rules on swearing are clear. You have also had the opinion of a mod on this very thread in respect of certain words. Now, Don't take that out on me just because you want to go about cursing all over the place and can't. Take it up with the mods.

Vicky. 03-07-2011 06:34 PM

Well, technically mods have nothing to do with it. We dont really get a say in most of the rules, just have to uphold them

Admin then.... whoever it is that makes the rules on here. The point is Vicky, if the OP has an issue with the rules: he should be raising it in the appropriate section and with the appropriate people: not arguing over it with other members. I think that's a fair comment.

emmetmcl 03-07-2011 07:00 PM

how about the other C word? cli*t? not that i can think of anywhere to use it. LOL

Clits not a swear word though :/

And I dont think I have ever seen it used as such either.

Im actually asking other members point of view on the matter actually.

We all use this forum daily and therefor are entitled to an opinion on how the forum is run so this IS in the "appropriate" place.

Even Vicky stated that she liked the odd swear word and thats coming from a mod.

Is it possible to add a poll to this now? Would be a much quicker and easier way to see what people really think and would certainly stop you rambling on and on and on and on and on about something you probably dont really care about but feel like you should argue because lets face it pretty much every post i make you disagree with me.

Walk away from the thread.....Like an egyptian

Thats twisting my words a little bit :p

I dont think there should be a filter, as this place is PRIMARILY for BB, however I can see why the filter is there

I believe I made my point in my first post and it was you who somehow needed further clarification from what was very clear in my first post, and so it continued. You didn't like my opinion and continued to not accept my view. I continued to put my view over.

You will see from several other replies in this thread: that I am not alone in my view: I am not some lone sole on this forum who feels that there are words that simply are unacceptable on a forum that allows youngsters aged 13 on it.

I will post where I want, as I am breaking no rules: and should not be expected to be told by you to walk away from the thread, simply because we have differing opinions.

Wonderfully on topic.

I don't like censorship in any form. I don't see the point in censoring swears here or anywhere, because they're just words and it's immature to take offense to them just because they've been branded "bad" by society. I don't like a lot of things that people say but they should be allowed to say whatever they want as long as they're not harassing or threatening anyone.

BBDodge 04-07-2011 07:52 AM

On C4 BB used to get a censored early morning repeat wheich was watched by parents with small children. There are fans of the show from that demographic who are entitled to post here.

BigBroSite 04-07-2011 09:39 AM

But, my point is...

Do you people not remember what school was like?

Everyone swore at school! Away from the parents you can get away with it!

What is the worst that can happen if a kid reads a swear word? It's not gonna kill them is it!? They are gonna hear them anyway. Its the parents job to make the kid understand they are bad and should only be used when its older and in contex! :p

I'd say rather than laying full responsibility at the parents' doors..... given that this site is open to people as young as 13 - it is the ADULTS jobs to make the kids understand and that is why admin and mods are there. It's up to them, and not up to those of a similar age group who are swearing for the hell of it, because they 'can', coz mummy and daddy aren't looking in.

Do you remember what school was like - apart from swearing: ganging up and bullying people. That goes on in schools too: it doesn't mean to see it should be allowed to happen on a forum either. Exactly the same principle as the swearing.

I doubt many people on here object to the occassional cuss word, particularly when put into context: but some posters (children and adults) use it to such extent, in every 3rd post, full of F's, and C's - and they quite deliberately use a different font to avoid the swear filter. Now if that's not childish and immature - in he mistaken belief that they think they are some sort of rebel without a cause .... I don't know what it.

Half the time the ones very guilty of it - end up ruining the very point they are trying to get over: because they cannot think of anything else more descriptive to write - and anything worthwhile said, is lost in amongst the barrage of expletives.

So there!!

RALPH!

Anyways, I'm against the swear filter because although kids can easily go on to the forum BB never used to be a kid's show. It's only as it went on BB started to edit out or tone down some of it's content and that's why I think nowadays there's more younger teenagers on here than there would have been back in the day and so the forum's more 'clean' for the sake of the younger viewers. BB5 and 6 were so NOT for kids.

I swear a lot and I know it's not 'big or clever' but I still say it to emphasize my points or if I'm quoting something. Plus the swear filter's pretty stupid when there was a time you couldn't even type 'Pakistan'

Guess that would be be a bit of a bummer if you were trying to explain that's where you were going for your vacation!!

As I say: it's not the odd swear words: very few people in life don't swear: it's when comments are polluted with them that it detracts completely.

Im sorry educated one but cussing is in my vocab and i express myself using those delightfull words.

Im also sorry if it offends you but to be honest the way you write offends me.

Each post of yours is so overly well written. This is a Big Brother forum not a new novel by Agatha Christie.

I feel you over compensate with your big humungous words and i also feel you do this to patronise, impress and make yourself feel superior to other members (chavs) which i have often witnessed with you correcting peoples spelling.

But this is just my opinion.

It had to be done.:devil:I'm educated. Hang me.

Now, rather than sit on the fence: why don't you just say how you feel, rather than keeping it in to yourself. It's good to talk !!

If the way I write offends you so much, there's that wonderful invention on here known as the 'Ignore' button. Feel free to use it, then you won't need to be so offended. After all, the choice is there for you to make.
:spin:
