Fair enough, I did miss the point then

Kerry 26-07-2011 04:24 AM

Discourages spammers and old members rejoining too. Who's likely to pull a fast one if they see mods/admin online?

Trust me, mods being online does not discourage spammers and banned members :p

You would think it would, but not here :S

Oh :/

Marc 26-07-2011 05:08 AM

I get emails when somebody reports something or PMs me. So I would usually come on once that happens. Appearing offline as a host of a game, like Ben does is good because people can track what he does to get a leg up on a task.

Does that not work both ways? For tasks I mean? Mod's can see WHO people are PMing for instance. Members can't.

But that is just 'an ability' that we have with the MOD status. I can't change that?

Kerry 26-07-2011 05:23 AM

Ugh, I know. And fine when not abused to the advantage of mods only (NOT all I know!)

Anyway. I'm off. Night/morning people x

Marc 26-07-2011 05:44 AM

I don't know what you mean there sorry

Yes Mods that appear offline do not want to help Posters
they are hidden.

That should be Illegal.

When I was a member it did not bother me one iota if a mod appeared online because you generally know that at least one will be there at any given time as there are so many of us...

I can't speak for the other 5 members or so who voiced the same opinion, but I can tell you that it's not a pop, and neither does it bother me. We are allowed opinions on how the forum runs. We may not have any weight behind it, or any impact but we do have a right to discuss such things do we not?

Marc 26-07-2011 07:19 AM

I think Ben appearing offline to hide things in people's posts and do things for tasks is fair. Imagine having another contestant who see's them all and wins that task it'll be lame.

James 26-07-2011 08:16 AM

There's nothing wrong with appearing offline, and no problem with mods appearing offline - it puts individual mods under less pressure. Many of you would agree if you were moderators yourself.

Niamh. 26-07-2011 10:12 AM

I've changed to appearing online, if it bothers people that much.

billy123 26-07-2011 10:17 AM

I always appear offline because arista is always watching 24/7

MTVN 26-07-2011 10:20 AM

I might change mine back to online actually, only had it offline because otherwise it always shows what you're actually doing on the site.

It's fair enough if UKT appears offline because of what he's doing on the Mole though if another Mod is playing the game wouldn't that give them a bit of an unfair advantage because they could see what he was doing while ordinary members couldn't? And normally I'd probably say it is better for Mods to appear online but it's not really that big an issue

I don't see the point in it, but I've no problem with mods appearing offline. If I was that upset with a post I'd report it and, as Vicky has pointed out, mods get report notifications (or whatever they're called) regardless of appearing offline or online. I've never felt the need to PM a mod instead of reporting.

I agree with Kerry that mods shouldn't be able to post in closed threads unless they're clarifying why it was closed. I've seen a few times mods give their opinions in a closed thread. It's not fair for them to abuse their power and 'have the last word', so to speak, when the rest of us aren't able to reply.

I really don't think it happens that often though, not enough for it to be an issue anyway. And, I think in Bens case with that MM&I thread, like he already said, it was his thread to start with and what he did post was an explanation as to why he started the thread in the first place.

I think it was just this line that was the problem with the last reply in the MM&I thread:

yet again this forum does what it does best and jumps to conclusions of spite and hate blah blah blah
I don't have a problem with a bit of clarification but I don't think it's fair to post that when members cant reply to it

I'm gonna close this thread and make a smart ass remark once I've done it :joker:

I appeared online at first for the game for that reason, then Niamh got executed so I switched to appear offline so no player could see what I was planning. :)

Zippy 26-07-2011 02:21 PM

Yes I think mods should appear online too. I can understand not wanting any hassle but thats all part of being a mod. Can't be all power and perks.

I can understand games but I don't think it makes a difference with mods, if you send a PM or a report then we'll still see it and there's nearly always a mod around to answer queries anyway.

well done

although it doesnt bother me that much. I never even notice who's on/off unless they post.

Doogle 26-07-2011 05:52 PM

I don't see the problem, as long as at least 1 mod is shown as online why would it matter if they want to appear offline? If you had a problem surely you could just pm the one shown online, even if they weren't your first choice they're still a mod and they would help? Plus you could report so I don't get what the big deal is

ILoveTRW 26-07-2011 05:55 PM

i didn't even realise you could appear offline
i havent logged onto this site in years

InOne 26-07-2011 07:32 PM

Never seen the need really

I got nothing to hide :suspect:

Not saying the view was right or wrong. Just that if a threads closed it's closed

I agree with every single one of the above posts.

Mods should always appear online.

When a thread is closed - no further comments should be allowed. At all.

Point in case:

http://thisisbigbrother.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4423816&postcount=85

Forget the obvious gang pack mentality.... just home in on one particular member..................... after the thread has been closed

Marc 30-07-2011 02:32 PM

Pyramid I never meant that to be a snide comment once it was closed :nono:

I was just replying and UkTurtle closed it at the same time. I didn't even know he was closing it.

MTVN 30-07-2011 02:32 PM

Thought that would kill you not being able to reply to that :joker:

Novo 30-07-2011 02:33 PM

Was waiting for this :joker:
