Yeah the Radio DJ's could never have expected an innocent prank call to result in this, I bet they never even expected to get through to a nurse at all. Too soon to speculate on all the causes of the suicide though

InOne 07-12-2012 03:12 PM

Where was the Nurse from?

Me. I Am Salman 07-12-2012 03:29 PM

Which woman was the one that committed suicide? The first one or the second?

Niamh. 07-12-2012 03:31 PM

The first i think ^

MTVN 07-12-2012 03:35 PM

I think the first is just the receptionist, the second is the Nurse who gives out the private information

MTVN 07-12-2012 03:36 PM

The guys Charles accent is pretty good actually

It is the first nurse on the call who has died. They said she was a staff nurse who was just covering the phones for another colleague.

Saph 07-12-2012 03:45 PM

that prank was actually quite funny (the accents sucked), shame it all backfired :(

Niamh. 07-12-2012 03:46 PM

I thought it was the receptionist that died though?

Oh right I presumed it was the second because the transcript of the conversation just described the first as a receptionist

The reporter on BBC News said the staff nurse was covering the phones for some reason.

bbfan1991 07-12-2012 04:07 PM

It's awful:(. I wonder what will happen to that radio station now?

arista 07-12-2012 04:11 PM

Yes it was the first Lady taking the call,
her voice went worldwide news.

Yes but late night
they may cover calls.
As so many sleeping

Sticks 07-12-2012 04:39 PM

There was no receptionist on duty at the time as it was about 05:30 so this nurse took the call.

I would have thought both this nurse and the nurse who spoke to the radio presenters would have been suspended while they were investigated for violating patient privacy, but the hospital said that there had been no disciplinary action being taken against the nurse..

One wonders the presenters had got through to a receptionist would they have been put through.

Kizzy 07-12-2012 05:44 PM

What a tragic end to a very bizarre situation.

arista 07-12-2012 06:05 PM

The 2 DJ's who did the prank have been taken off air.
For now.

ref:SkyNewsHD and Ch4 news

King Gizzard 07-12-2012 06:07 PM

they probably should have thought about it more but I feel a bit bad for the DJs, they weren't to know it would lead to this

RIP though

MTVN 07-12-2012 06:15 PM

The DJ's have both deleted their Twitter accounts now as well

AnnieK 07-12-2012 06:19 PM

It's a shocking story....am sure there will be more to her situation....just so sad... RIP

Kizzy 07-12-2012 06:20 PM

Thats heartbreaking, kate and wills announced the pregnancy less than 2 weeks ago, already they are being hounded and an innocent nurse is dead.
I hope the idiot presenters are sacked!

Sticks 07-12-2012 06:35 PM

Really tragic event, really awful for this to happen. What turmoil this Nurse must have been in.
Horrible thing to occur.

Z 07-12-2012 08:51 PM

This is horrible! That poor woman, she must have felt awful! There's nothing worse than realising you've screwed up at work, never mind having it plastered over the media AND it being seen as some sort of national security risk...

I can't believe this story.. she didn't get fired did she?

Surely there wasn't THAT much pressure on her? :(

Marsh. 07-12-2012 10:12 PM

I can't believe the papers pages are all about "Kate's sadness".

Have some respect for the lady herself.

Mrluvaluva 07-12-2012 10:23 PM

Some people do not cope with things the same as others do. I should think this had a huge impact on her though. So sad and devastating for her family. I imagine this incident will change the course of similarly intended "comedy sketches" going forward. Very unfortunate, and truly saddening, but a witch hunt should not be the course. Lessons can be learned, but accountability is not the answer in my opinion. May she rest in peace.

Sticks 08-12-2012 05:13 AM

She may have felt that by passing on the call instead of screening it out for what it was, she behaved dishonourably and when you do that you are required to fall on your sword.

For her the only honourable thing would be to kill herself.

We are told she was from overseas and her native culture may have added into this issue of honour

That is the only way I could explain this.

Cherie 08-12-2012 05:51 AM

What a waste, in a few days it would have blown over, I suppose the press being camped on the doorstep of the hosp didnt help; I dont really know why had to broadcast the call on the news either, as if her humilation wasn't bad enough. RIP

I agree this would have blown over so I cannot understand how this woman thought this was a life ending situation. She probably already had numerous issues and was probably already in a fragile state of mind and this latest incident just pushed her over the edge. Really unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, my sympathies for her family. A desparately sad situation for all concerned.

Sticks 08-12-2012 09:17 AM

Maybe she thought she had brought great dishonour and in some cultures if you do that you must pay with your life.

Don't forget the various honour killings we have in certain communities.
