I really don't get the big deal about Russell. From what I've seen in Samoa he OK I was expecting him to be an aggressive bully, I was expecting a masculine Colton. Maybe he is like that in other season, well he must be otherwise he wouldn't be talked about so much, but from what I've seen he really ain't that bad.

Russell's pretty awful though, his whole MO is being a dick to women and yelling at them to shut up and do what he says if they know what's good for them. That wouldn't translate into good television as it is, but combine that with a bloated edit and it's next to impossible to watch. Samoa was an atrocious season and coincidentally enough it was told from his perspective entirely.

I know some people here still delude themselves into thinking Russell was this amazing innovative cutthroat player (shoutout to you SoBig) but he was anything but? It was just a bunch of self-congratulatory fluff, marching up and down the beach telling everyone that he was the greatest player EVER, and then makes it to the final three because everyone realizes he's a joke and then he gets *crushed* when he gets like 2/9 jury votes MAX. It's literally the same thing every time, trying to create an alliance of gormless idiot women (underrating Natalie's social game in the process in Samoa and getting way over his head with Sandra and Parvati in HvV), because that's all he's capable of doing.

And on top of it all Russell completely ruined his era of Survivor. Ever since Samoa we've been swamped with fake ass "masterminds" who only give self-congratulatory confessionals like David Murphy and Jim Rice, and the editors have made the winners super obvious to prove that they were deserving and didn't win just because of a bitter jury. He literally was the worst thing to happen to the show.

Boston Rob had a numbers advantage in HvV and Russell still beat him when they went head to head. He did the same thing in Samoa where is tribe was down 4-8 at the merge. Russell was a great player, do I think he is the greatest ever? No, not at all. His social game sucks, but he is a good strategist and manipulator.

From what I recall it was Natalie who changed the game to their favour. If she had not flipped the other tribe on Erik, Jasion would have gone. Shambo got blindsided by that vote as well so that helped her flip in the next few votes.

Yes that was the only strategic move she made. At that point in the game everyone in the Galu tribe was tired of Erik and Natalie jumped on it. All of the other moves were Russell's.

It was best strategic move off the season, if she did not get them to flip, like I said, Jasion would have gone meaning Foa Foa (?) would have been down a member and Russell would only have Mike and Natalie then. Sure he could have played his immunity next tribal but then at final 10 he is screwed because Jasion is gone so he needs Shambo and John both to flip just to make it a 5-5 tie resulting in a purple rock.

Natalie's one move changed the whole game in her favour.

Someone who always makes it to the end but never comes even close to winning isn't a great player, just a goat.

Is Parvati a goat? She should would've lost to Cirie in Micronesia if production didn't switch it to a final 2 at the very last minute and she lost to Sandra in Heroes vs Villains. A goat is someone like a Philip Sheppard who was dragged to the end. Russell controlled both of his games.

Jeff stated Rob C was the smartest player to never win but honestly I think Deena was a better game player (The mistake that got her eliminated was a smart game move so I can't discredit her for it).

Christy 'I got my foot stuck in the tree' Smith :love:

I really liked Rob C. too but he is a tad overrated, especially in contrast to someone like Deena who (like you said) played a good game but is completely forgotten in the Survivor canon these days. I liked all three on the show gameplay aside, and their personalities are the main reason why I rooted for them :love:
