Bit of me is like this towards Barcelona. Wouldn't say hate... more dislike. :suspect:
|
I tend not to mind if a lot of people dislike celebs or things for no good reason, I feel I'm pretty good at making my own mind up.
Although I sometimes get pangs of jealousy, but that soon passes, and I try and be happy for those achieving things that I would like to achieve in my life. I think there is a danger when you begin to let hate enter your heart, it does far more damage to you that the person you're hating on. |
Jessie J has a nice voice and is a good songwriter (PARTY IN THE USA, anyone?), but I do wish she'd stop the vocal acrobatics... it may be tricky to do, but it's unpleasant to hear.

So so so unpleasant

I really like jessie, loved her early stuff.

I think she may just be keeping in trend with the ongoing infantilisation of women in pop culture lately... a lot of singers are singing with a childish, annoying nasal sound... and the age boundary around when a girl's deemed hot and sought-after seems to be a lot lower.
|
The music I grew up listening to, a little bit of showing off was the norm. I dont mind a bit of vocal acrobatics. And, it IS hard to do. A singer has to be very confident in their ability to even try some of the stuff she does. She knows she's a good singer.
Jessie's technique is impeccable. She's a bit of a female Luther Vandross. a superb technical singer but maybe there is something lacking in soul and passion. The pop records she produces do not do her voice justice and perhaps she has a tendency to over do it at times. Never the less she's very talented and will probably be around for a while if she plays her card right. |
I think the bits of her voice I mean are the kind-of scat breakdowns, and stutters she throws in.

the worst is tory/republican haters when they can't give their own evidence as to why they hate them.
fair enough if you have your political reasons for hating a party, but don't just say it because you think you know a lot. i deal with it every day at work and it's infuriating. this same person thinks america bombed themselves on 9/11... total bandwagon jumper |

I don't hate Bieber, I hate his fangirls, as for his music - it's just not my cup of tea. GaGa... not a fan of the music nor the fans either and she's gotten more annoying with age.. Cowell and his creations are mostly generic which is why I don't like them. I wouldn't go as far as hating someone for it though...

I feel like this thread ought to deal with one thing at a time, I have so many opinions and I don't know where to begin, so I'll just start and maybe Smithy can take over and decide when we should move on  'cause I think this is a pretty good thread idea, people can explain why they think something is hated on.
Lady GaGa I think is hated on because she debuted as this cool party girl type with her first couple of songs and I think she earned herself a certain type of crowd following. I didn't like that image, personally, but I know a lot of people did. Just Dance, Pokerface, LoveGame... she had a definite sound, image and popstar persona there. I don't know if that's who she "really" is, but that's how she presented herself to the world when she debuted. I think the hate kicked in when she completely changed her image and started being weird, strange and made a point of being different, standing for difference, representing all that is alternative and different. It was a complete overhaul. Suddenly, the fanbase she appealed to originally was no longer who she wanted to appeal to, so I think that's where it started. The media jumped at the chance to poke fun at her because she was suddenly wearing meat dresses and Kermit the frog dresses and that was just fine by her because it strengthened her whole "I'm representing difference" aim. I don't know if that's who she really is either, because she's chopped and changed what she stands for so many times throughout her career already, and to be perfectly honest, it detracts from the extremely talented singer, songwriter and dancer that she is. I think I would like Lady GaGa if her talents were at the forefront of her pop career. But to me, a casual listener, it's all style over substance - because the style is just so over the top, that it takes away from what's really there behind the image. I think people hate her because it comes across as fake, changing what you stand for so dramatically, and I think people hate her because it comes across as fake, making a choice to stand out so flamboyantly in the way that she does. |
she's vapid.
