I wonder if Smeagol wanted all Christians deported from America when those fundamentalists assassinated abortion doctors

There are wackos in all religion, stop simply targeting one of them

It's pretty easy to understand, really. Before there were reasonable explanations available for completely day-to-day phenomena (e.g. the sun, thunder, lightning, sandstorms, tornadoes...) you can see why people believed that there were "powerful beings" behind it; the early gods such as the Egyptian and Greek gods were the only explanations people could come up with, and stories were conjured up and elaborated on over time. Later, it was simplified by some into one "all-powerful" God (in Judaism) which spawned the offshoots of Christianity and later Islam... because, basically, as numbers increase you will ALWAYS start to get people disagreeing and coming up with their own variations, on everything.

As for how it spread, that's fairly simple too. Control. The Romans adopted Christianity because it was taking hold in the region and the old "gods" were being abandonned, and they spread it across Europe (replacing mainly paganism) as they conquered. Later, countries such as Britain and Spain did the same, but globally through colonialism / missionaries.

Me. I Am Salman 15-12-2013 07:27 PM

Oh and the country isn't in ruins so quit with that bull****, I doubt anyone would have even known about this hadn't the Mail reported. I live in East London and I noticed nothing

Religion is the root cause of ALL the evil in the world today, in the past, and will still be the root cause in the future until people realise how they've been hoodwinked for the last 2000 odd yeas

Marsh. 15-12-2013 07:42 PM

No, crazy extremists are the root of all evil.

Religion can do a lot of good for people. It's the greedy evil people who take religion amongst other things and twist it to their own ends.

I wouldn't go quite as far as that Fingers my lad. I think greed and lust for power has a lot to answer for the evils in the world. Religion often gets latched onto cos you can pretty much justify anything you want depending on your interpretation.

Sadly, this is the price we pay for free speech, Salman. Some people have no clutch of tact between their half-baked thoughts and their gob.

Fingers, religion used to be the cause of all the evils. Now it's money and oil.

Money, Oil and Greed, but most of those greedy bastards will preach at you how deeply religious they are, like going to church every Sunday and getting back to the real business of manufacturing arms on Monday or just invading any oil rich country on any day of the week.

Edit: Sunday, Saturday or Friday and replace Church with any othe name you like!

And most of those people don't go to church at all or completely twist that religion to suit their own agendas.

The evil doesn't come from that religion, the bastards use it as an excuse.

religion is the cause of all evil. its made by men to give a valid excuse to kill eachother in the name of a religion. just look at africa right now its sad.

as for these people there should be no tolerance on that subject. that's not freedom of speech thats trying to force their religion upon us.
There is no freedom of speech anyway its a myth

Marsh. 15-12-2013 08:11 PM

Again, they latch onto religions as their excuse.

Islam is only about 1400 years old, it's Christianity that's 2000 years old. In Judaism this is the year 5774. So we've been getting away with it the longest. Yay us... Not to be a pedant, or anything...

Of course!, Your lot started it all off. :wavey:

It irritates me when fanatics of any religion attempt to ram their societal views down the throats of others.

As many problems as alcohol may cause, it's been a part of western culture for thousands of years. People need their vices sometimes, and to snatch that away due to the supposed teachings of some metaphysical being is preposterous.

And if these individuals disliked the liberal availability of alcohol so much, then surely Saudi Arabia with its hardline enforcement of Sharia would be a much more appropriate place for them to live in anyways.

People had been brewing and fermenting, if not distilling, alcohol long before they invented their various Deities,

No.......these people are religious fanatics/extremists there is only one way to deal with people like this and that is to send them away from this Country.

If they won't go and want to continue to preach their vile messages of Hatred then I think its time to follow the examples of some of our other European neighbours and just open fire...first with plastic/rubber bullets and if they STILL don't get the message then brake out the live ammo.......

I think a couple of rounds of live ammo and the message will finally hit home....!!!!
