people write any filth they like on you tube and many other places, yet the police get involved in twitter over anything and eevrything? the whole thing is a sorry mess. how stan collymore ended up as the main news on bbc for being offended on twitter proves how pathetic shallow and confused this nation has become....that was clearly bigger news that day than war fmaine, murder etc

Unfortunately, it serves to remind you of all the sad, unstable creeps out there who belong in a padded cell. They are best ignored, as they feed of all the attention such remarks get them. They just advertise the fact they have serious mental health problems and their own lives are clearly sad and pathetic.

In America someone tweeted a picture of a gun last week and said 'if I get a 100 retweets I will shoot a pedestrian' he was arrested within the hour, so why can't the British police do the same?

It's changing slowly I think, there are those who scream about freedom of speech but when that entails abuse and harrassment then it's totally different.
That shouldn't be tolerated whether in person or via the internet.

Like any sane person could ever make any kind of comparison between any comments made by the above poster and the appauling, malicious comments made by a clearly twisted individual towards a grieving mother - something you refer to as the 'odd silly comment'.

I think you need to develop a bit of self-awareness and analyize your own morality if you think such bile spouted by that creep was simply just 'the odd silly comment'.

What a disgusting person this troll is. And I find it absolutely ridiculous to compare off the cuff remarks on here to what this person on twitter did tbh.

In previous cases of people being arrested for twitter stuff I have said I disagree with it (the tom daley death threat being one, another I think was a random racist tweet that got punished). But in this case, its just totally sick and the person deserves an actual sentence IMO. Its so different to just sending a random abuse filled message.
