One of the worst parts of this is that it DOES happen accidentally, its a very real thing. Obviously this monster knew that and had read about it and tried to use that to get away with murdering his own son. And now, if (when) this tragedy occurs to some other family in future, because of this man, the parents will immediately be viewed with suspicion that it was deliberate. I wouldn't be surprised if past cases that were ruled accidental are looked at again - at least "unofficially" with people being freshly judged.
I just can't comprehend this. I know that being a parent is hard. I'd even go so far as to say that on the worst days I can understand that feeling of wishing I'd never had kids! Though it's always fleeting. But why would anyone do this? Even if they really, truly no longer wanted to be a parent? It's abhorrent to walk away from your kids but when it comes down to it, you CAN. You can just leave. Many people do. You don't have to rob them of their chance at life??
The money / insurance aspects make this all the more horrifying. And such small, meaningless amounts too. Not that any amount justifies it, obviously. but a few thousand dollars? That's the value of a while future of possibilities?
