Oh and a bunch of foreign athletes with British citizenship recently switched allegiance to the UK, including Zharnel Hughes (who broke Blake's junior records and almost beat Bolt in New York) and Cindy Ofili (Tiffany Porter's sister).
I'm going to watch the Trials and will be there for the 100m Hurdles final, which will consist of Tiffany Porter, Cindy Ofili, Lucy Hatton, Serita Solomon and Jess Ennis. It's definitely gonna be the event of the champs for me! |
This is a useful website for seeing which athletes across the globe have achieved World Champs qualifying standards:

But yeah, the drug cheat stuff is why I can't fully get behind Kaylin Whitney (the girl who broke high school records in the 100/200 last year as a sophomore and went pro. Candace Hill broke her 100 record this year.) She's been training with Star Athletics, which is Dennis Mitchell's track club that Damu Cherry and Justin Gatlin are associated with. All three are drug cheats so it naturally makes you suspicious of everyone involved. Speaking of drug suspicions, there's been a hell of a lot of stuff going on with the Nike Oregon Project, one of the best distance groups in the country. Alberto Salazar (who is controversial enough as it is) is under suspicion mainly for stuff with Galen Rupp. It's also interesting that Mary Cain (the American equivalent of Jessica Judd as I understand) has left NOP and Lauren Fleshman has come out and talked about how Salazar took her to one of his doctors to get her diagnosed with asthma and then told her how she should take her asthma medicine. Fun fact, my father coached Tiffany Porter's husband in high school! |

Omg Jeff Porter? That's so cool... he seems like a nice guy too, unlike some American athletes (y'all know the ones) |
ya I like what I've seen from him. This also makes Tiffany Porter my favorite Brit athlete just bc of the degrees of separation <3
US Nationals aren't being shown because of the NFL draft  but they cut to the women's 100 final and it's gonna be Torie Bowie, English Gardner, and Jasmine Todd going to Beijing! They beat out Prandini, Bartoletta, Tarmoh, and Jeter :o Jeter went down and might've pulled something right at the end of the race but she was already out of it. |
and Tyson Gay predictably won the 100. I h8 that he's a drug cheat but he interviews well. It's nice to see a sprinter who isn't completely cocky and is respectful of his competitors, as sad as that is to say.
Trayvon Bromell got second place though! Turns 20 in July and ran 9.96. |
New Jersey girls got 1st and 3rd in TJ <3 including 19 year old Keturah Orji. I have no clue who actually goes to Beijing though since not many of our women TJers meet the standard usually. (ETA: Orji got 3rd place but has the best jump in the country, only 0.05 off the qualifying mark!)
Sanya Richards-Ross didn't make the 400 meter final :o :o :o |
:o :o :o Francena McCorory doesn't make it in the 400! Died in the last 50 and fell right at the line for fourth place (was already in fourth though so the fall didn't change things.) The team will be Allyson Felix, Natasha Hastings, and Phyllis Francis!
|
The US trials are brutal. Stowers, Richards Ross and McCorory all out of the team despite topping the world leading times. Nelvis only just made it by 0.01 second...
Christine's chances of defending her title have drastically improved. The last day of US trials are on Eurosport 2 @ 9pm tonight |

Hoping Gatlin has a disastrous 200 |
Georganne Moline was in the mix but fell at hurdle #8 :\
Top three were Shamier Little (2x NCAA champion, 20 years old), Cassandra Tate, and Kori Carter. Lashinda Demus misses the team by 0.03 :o :o :o |
Maggie Vessey falls with 200 to go and Ajee' Wilson loses a shoe in the process and just holds on for third. Montano, Martinez, and Wilson are going to Beijing.
|
lmfao Duane Solomon spent all this time talking about how he's going to take the race into ~*~THE TWILIGHT ZONE~*~
...and then he went out super fast and just stopped with 50 meters to go and didn't even finish :joker::joker::joker::joker::joker: |
Jenna Prandini is the national champion in the 200 :worship:
|
Jeff Porter misses the US team by 0.005 :( he had a good start but his second half fell apart.
|
A few shocks from the US trials this time.
British Trials are next week. I can't see Team GB being that full tbh, since selectors have been extra harsh this year. First of all, you need 2 A Standards AND Top 2 at the trials to achieve auto selection. If you fail to reach top 2, you can only be selected if you have a realistic chance at making the final in Rio. Selectors also get final say over IAAF invitations, so someone who doesn't win the Trials but is high enough in the world rankings to receive an invite from IAAF to fill up remaining spots could still get rejected if selectors don't see enough potential in them. Men's middle distance in particular is looking likely that no one will be sent. Also, if you plan to compete at the Euro Juniors or U23s, then you aren't allowed to compete in that same event at Beijing  I'm going on Friday and Saturday to watch, but all the main finals will be on Sunday (which is the only day being televised by the BBC). |
|
Lmao I love Cindy Ofili's resting bitch face in this interview. She looks pissed that her sister beat her :joker: And then Tiffany's face when Cindy is talking :joker:
|
That "mhmmm" at the end :joker:
|
Cindy Ofili feeling British will never not be hilarious to me <3
|
Do they not get on? There is so much passive aggressiveness in that video lmao.
|
I have no idea but apparently Tiffany said "the day her sister beats her is the day she retires" lmao
|

Can we get Dawn Harper Nelson on BBUS pls... The way she manipulated those officials into pulling out a green card when she blatantly false started <333

Here’s a list of automatic qualifiers. Those in brackets have one A-standard, but need another for automatic selection.

omfg Candace Hill just broke Kaylin Whitney's 200 world youth record with a 22.43. Lauren Rain Williams got second for USA with a 22.90. They're both 16 years old.
Candace's 100/200 double is the second at World Youth after Jodie Williams fwiw |
omfg and Sammy Watson just negative splitted a 2:03.54 to win O_O went out in 63 and closed in 60
|
Tara Davis wins LJ for USA with 6.41. She's another 16 year old. USA's class of 2017 is ridiculously stacked on the girl's side especially

Ajee' Wilson is not going to be racing at Worlds because of injury. Real shame.
In more controversial news, however, Nick Symmonds has been dropped off of the Team USA roster! There's been a lot of controversy because's openly refusing to sign a conditions statement because one of the conditions is that everyone must wear Nike at any Team USA event, but there aren't any guidelines as to what is defined as a Team USA event and since he's sponsored by Brooks he could get in trouble and he wouldn't be allowed to bring his trainers on the plane and all this ****. I don't know, Nick's been very vocal about all of this and he had some big press conference tonight where he's blowing up USATF's spot so it should be interesting for the next few weeks. |
|
Seb Coe has been elected the new president of the IAAF by 115 votes to 92.

World Champs start tonight at 5 past midnight UK time
|
Looking forward to the world champs prob second to the Olympics in athletics terms just hope team GB do well and there isn't too many drug stories overshadowing the compettion

KJT and Jess Ennis Top 2 in the heptathlon going into today's evening session. Nick Miller, Laura Muir and Laura Weightman all safely qualified in their heats. Mark Dry, Kyle Langford and Michael Rimmer all failed to qualify.
