I am not saying ALL Americans, but they sometimes don't get some of our words so the 'joke' doesn't come across the same, sometimes a word here can be offensive to them and vise versa.I love Americans but a lot of their humour is different to ours.

The most common thing I hear people say is that Americans don't understand Irony or sarcasm(and what I've also heard KH say too), now that is completely untrue and quite insulting, don't you think?

I saw Rich Hall (american comedian) he said the same thing, that Americans struggle with the British wit, sarcasm, irony etc but living here for a few years he got used to it and loved the British Sense of Humour.

No, not insulting, look how many of our top comedians have not made it in the USA.

It is just culturally difference, many Americans have a strong sense of Patriotism, Religion and manners.

It is almost the same as UK comedians make jokes about, it just doesn't travel.

There are a few who cross the divide like Joan Rivers, but not many.

It's probably more insulting the stereotype that British people all have bad teeth but it happens. I'm not going to get offended over it.

I can't say all Americans don't understand humour or irony that's like saying all brit's like tea! (I hate tea)

Some do some don't :D But that is people in general. I could never tar a whole country with that just because a handful of American's I may have met 'didn't quite get it' :D

No it's not always untrue,it's the same as they brand us as reserved , have you been to a US cinema ? I tell you they are quite loud and verbal compared to ours , we are very similar to them and also quite different.I lived there for a year and believe you did too,did you really see no differences in the cultures?

I am not sheltered thankyou very much, I lived there,I know there is a difference, but hey ho anything to cling to eh?

Mokka 03-02-2015 01:30 PM

I think your all missing the main issue here...
American's don't get iron?

The is a disaster of epic proportions ready to devastate a nation. I am going to write my Premiere now and demand Canada send all its supplemental iron to those needy Americans.

What will you do?

Of course i saw cultural differences Kazanne, i never said I didn't see cultural differences, what i said was that I think it's unfair to say Americans don't understand irony or sarcasm like Katie Hopkins says, this is the "humour" she refers to

bots 03-02-2015 01:31 PM

Humour is even very different between Scottish and English people. Different cultures = different humour

Kizzy 03-02-2015 01:36 PM

No... it's like rain on your wedding day, a free ride when you're already there.

Who would have thought? It figures.

a difference, yes, but to say yanks don't get irony/sarcasm is an old stereotype that's not true at all, but it also depends where you were, the circumstances..etc

I don't really care what she has to say to be honest I think she's a pathetic individual. But if you are going to get offended about this you might wanna ring up the producers of family guy and tell them to stop making british people have wonky teeth and speak like cockneys cos it's a 'stereotype'.

The Sun must be very desperate to pay her to insult their clients on a daily basis.

Michelles an interesting one isn't she. Initially I wanted her to win. She's got this incredibly hard looking face when she's got her make-up on and she makes out that she says it like it is. I really thought she was going to be quite a formidable character. I now see her as the weakest and most apathetic person in the house. She's Katie Hopkins glove puppet who occasionally rises to remarks she can use for her own gain within the gay community. She's the true definition of arse licker.

Yeah, she's by far the one I was most disappointed in. I really liked the idea of her and wanted to like her

I agree. My best friend is from Baltimore and when we get together we do a lot of laughing. Perhaps it depends where you are from in America?

It was interesting reading some site threads from American viewers after her Fat documentary aired on a US channel a few weeks back. Gotta say there was plenty of humour posted about her and it translated well to me.

Still game, Rab C Nesbit loved by all. Equally Fawlty Towers, Rising Damp, Only Fools, Open all Hours.

Tosh. UK humour is understood by all. Just not the new crap.

Wrong. Europeans arrived hundreds of years before and became Americans. With American Independence in 1776.

The mass slaughter and land grab was mainly in the nineteenth century and committed by Americans.
