Times like this I'm glad to live in flats on top of a shopping centre :joker:

I'm fully aware of who my neighbours are. And they should stop doing it for the exact reason stated in the OP, it really isn't worth going round in circles about it.

But subways do sell halal whether we like it or not. They have large stickers on their shop windows saying halal. We don't get the option of a none halal sandwich choice in a none muslim country at all.

Where I live, until a few years ago, it was like that. For about a month before Bonfire Night it would be like being in a warzone every night.

But then I think the council, police and trading standards cracked down on sales of fireworks to under-18s, and now you virtually don't hear a firework going off until Bonfire night or the weekend near it.

I'm sorry, a thread about fireworks suddenly became about Subway serving halal meat? :conf:

It's NOTHING at all like "Muslims trying to make non-Muslims eat halal during the whole Subway fiasco", and it is NOTHING to do with trying to 'Stop people doing what they like just because we don't like it '.

It is about common decency, consideration for other people and their pets, respect for other people's property, and compliance of the LAW of this country - something yOU should know all about if it's your profession.

These ignorant bastards are BREAKING THE LAW and ARE dickheads.

Locke is absolutely correct.

The police enforce the laws, I just deal with the individuals who break them. Plus I don't even think it's a law break anymore, but if you hate it so much, then call the police.

Marsh. 03-11-2015 10:03 PM

Ashley, are you setting off a firework display as we type? :suspect:

Don't get me started on the police. I went to them with a serious stalking issue and because the stalker worked for them they quickly closed ranks. No justice at all.:fist::fist::fist:

Saving the hate filled emails then presenting them to the police is not stalking Marsh.

The police assured me it will not happen again. They agreed with me with that person present but then did nothing. No punishment for their abuse towards me. Just wanted too sweep it under the carpet.

Well then, I know the law on this subject better than a lawyer. They most certainly ARE breaking the law.

Banned fireworks

Mortar Shells: all fireworks of the "aerial shell"/"mortar shell" type, which launch single, large projectiles into the air where they explode to create effects - are Category 4. This was as a result of the deaths in 1996 of Stephen Timcke and David Hattersley who were killed by mortars on successive nights.

Mini-rockets, bangers, firecrackers, fireworks of erratic flight (including jumping fireworks) were banned in 1997.

In 2004 the definition of mini-rocket was further restricted, and airbombs were also banned, in an effort to stop anti-social behaviour involving fireworks.

I will NOT detail further Law concerning 'Safety Zones' and 'Fall Out Zones' because I am intelligent enough to recognise futility when I see it.

Incidentally, I do NOT need the police - believe me - I can sort ignorant bastards like these out myself - one on one, or with 'My Gang' if a gang of ignorant yobs is concerned, and believe me, MY gang are bigger, tougher, and more lethal.

But that would be breaking the law though, wouldn't it?

Types of fireworks are banned, yes. I know this. But as long as they aren't causing harm and, as you say, are kept to firm zones, then there shouldn't be a problem. People who want to enjoy fireworks and comply with the law should not be penalised because of these said yobs. Instead, these said yobs should be penalised. So call the bloody police.

I'm not wallowing in anger about the incident, I'm just surprised and disgusted by certain responses on here. Let's just leave it at that, and say I've been... educated tonight.

What responses, though? Not everyone is going to share your opinion, especially those who don't have dogs and/or other pets and don't live in "big cities" where fireworks are a regular thing. If I was so bothered about fireworks I'd have a little more perspective but I'm simply not.

I wouldn't want a flat-out ban, but a lot more restriction is necessary I think.

The comparison doesn't carry the same logic though.

If you don't agree with halal meat, you can choose not to eat it.
If you don't want fireworks disrupting your evening, you can't lower the volume. The noise is still there and seriously annoying.

Amy Jade 03-11-2015 10:47 PM

I think loud ones should be banned, they disturb the peace and cause loads of problems - I understand people may want their own display but I think they should only be allowed the quiet kind.

smudgie 03-11-2015 10:48 PM

Fireworks on Bonfire night, New Year's Eve and special occasions only, would suit me fine.
