Cheryl is joint with Jess Glynne with having the most number ones by a British Female

reece(: 29-12-2015 05:06 PM

I think two #1s make up for a flop 3rd in the same era :joker:

Shall we talk about Tulisa's latest era not even picking up? :fan:

Pretty much all of her #1 came from Simon pimping her on his shows :hehe:

Call My Name wasn't performed on X Factor :spin:

Cheryl's latest single did flop, her husband even blamed her management for it and caused a bit of dram over it. Her support has been on the slide for the last 12 - 16 months imo, she came across badly in 2014's X Factor and even her die hard stans seem to have moved on

All of LM can sing, only one can in FH so what is there to debate?

She still has a career, her next single will most likely go to number 1

But this suggests that everyone who performs on talent shows go to #1, which isn't the case. She had a big leg up with her judging role but her popularity extends out further than the x factor fan base

Rita has proved this to be false, has she ever had a number one since Calvin Harris dumped her for better (and cleaner) things?

She was riding off the back of The Voice and X Factor, too.

Z 29-12-2015 05:30 PM

Cheryl and Rita are both now celebrities who happen to have music careers. The problem is that the UK doesn't produce popstars in the vein of American popstars so measuring them against each other is stupid - Jess Glynne has never done a choreographed performance in her life like Britney Spears but obviously the former would sing circles round the latter. The UK's all about the voice and the look rather than the performance artist spectacle and look so America brings out incredible all rounders who are the best at everything and that is celebrated and supported; whereas the UK is all about being a bit rough around the edges, we like to support the underdog, we like a bit of vulnerability and humility... it's why someone like Cher Lloyd is reviled in the UK for being up herself and cocky but managed to make some waves in the US for being confident and believing in herself... unfortunately, she can't dance and she's not that hot so she was never going to sell too well.

I mean, really, when have we ever produced a Beyonce or a Pink, somebody worth supporting for over a decade?

Amy Jade 29-12-2015 05:33 PM

Alexandra could sing and dance

I think with Cheryl though, when she joined the x factor she suddenly became a household name (which she wasn't before even with the success of girls aloud) and she was branded 'the nations sweetheart' etc, and people just fell in love with her a bit because she came across really well, and all of that gave her solo career a massive boost on it's launch. Whereas Rita's situation is different, in terms of where her careers at but also in that the X Factor doesn't have the same influence it did when Cheryl joined, and just personality wise, she's very different to Cheryl. So I'm not saying that a judging role will always give someone a leg up in the industry, I just think that specifically with Cheryl it did.

LukeB 29-12-2015 05:35 PM

I actually think Cher Lloyd calmed down, her 2nd album was much way mature but it flopped, is which a shame because it's better than her 1st album which did respectfully well.

As much as I'm not really a fan, Ellie has a good couple of years left
