I think everyone should visit Auschwitz. If only to remind us of what we are capable of. The birds don't sing there, even now.

..I'm still a bit unclear what Biggins said exactly that caused his removal from the house because he seems to have many prejudices but it was a 'joke' comparing the shower to a gas chamber in a concentration camp..?...hmmm, maybe he is going to visit Auschwitz as a 'damage limitation' thing and more for himself to try to preserve his income and get work etc...but whatever the reason, surely it's a good thing because it might change and have him reassessing some of his mind-sets ..?...it's not somewhere that can't have an emotional effect and to provoke thought...and surely that's a good thing, whatever the reasons for going because it's better to have a prejudice reassessed and possibly removed than to just leave it there and forever judge because of it...isn't it better to have altered and changed mind-sets and re-assed mindsets, rather than him not going and leaving prejudice and intolerance out there....

Yeah, I do agree with you, and I'm really interested in going one day. I've already been to one Holocaust memorial centre and have heard the story of a Holocaust survivor.

However, I do find that in this instance it is completely tasteless giving the circumstances. I don't think he would ever have went if it weren't for his removal, and in my opinion it's a really tacky case of damage control. All he has to say is that he's not anti-Semitic and most people would have probably left the situation. This is making it completely worse because his intentions are obviously questionable.

Exactly, and even if it was simply the case that he wants to have a look at himself and understand more about it, he and his partner would just have quietly gone there. A personal experience. The fact that he felt the need to state it publicly is what makes it obvious that it's not about personal reflection at all, it's about his professional image, and using "stunt" involving a place like that to preserve his career... It's just tasteless in the extreme.

This has really got out of hand. Biggins was simply having a dig at Big Brother, not a personal attack of Katie or any Jews for that matter.
He is a nice bloke. What he said, in jest, could be said by any one of us especially if we were holed up in the BB house with inadequate shower facilities.

..but do you think it really matters what the motivation TS if the result were to be that it took away a prejudice and caused someone to re-asses etc..isn't that the important thing more than anything else../ the end result as it were if it was a positive one and removed one negative mind-set..the rest of it is more well we get to decide and don't buy the book/watch the movie/the TV Show etc because are things that each and every one of us have control in doing, in whether that 'damage limitation' or whatever can have success in terms of his career/income....he's kind of 'perfect celebrity' for a CBB in some years time because he wants to change public opinion of him for that one time he went into a reality show and was hated/judged forever more etc...how ironic is that, baby....I just think that he can lay low as it were and we can carry on in our negative judgement of a person and to what gain or value or there could be someone come out of CBB who really has 'made a journey' and become a better person..

If it does genuinely make him realise then sure. As it stands, though, it's currently just more evidence that he DOESN'T "get it".

Definitely! I don't know if he's going to be on This Morning, but I don't doubt he would've wanted to discuss this to some extent just so he could make people aware of the damage control. That's if he's not already dumbfounded by the negative response.

Yes you could be right about the timing of his visit.

Of course the birds sing there.

Nicky91 08-08-2016 01:48 PM

okay i hope Biggins can earn my respect for him back, because i genuinely quite like him on the telly :)

ThriceShy 08-08-2016 02:00 PM

He better rein in that laugh while he is there. If he does that every 2 minutes then he will end up getting booted out.

sungrass 08-08-2016 02:57 PM

Homosexuals were also killed at that awful place and Bi sexuals - he is just loosing it, he cant keep up with how modern people see things. Its clearly his idea of PR but its so stupid. Just apologuise and move on.

Let's not have any more older people in the house. Let's fill it up with tit-birds, prostitutes, mouthy-southy Essex boys, failed soap stars and miscellaneous other wastes of space... so long as there's no one older in there. Their opinions aren't like yours and their humour is different too, so let's keep it real and make sure we watch only uneducated chavs and reality stars for three weeks.

There aren't many Jews on this forum and I can't speak for anyone else... but I am more annoyed by the fake outrage than by the joke - and that's what it was, a joke.

LOL... Oh dear...

as it happens, my next door neighbour visited there a couple of years back and he said there wasn't a bird in sight or hearing at all, which felt really odd and wrong.

Go and see for yourself.

Oh man, talk about damage control. The way he's just putting it out there over just going on his own, without having to inform the media about it, reeks of desperation to cover it all up.

If he's really serious about visiting Auschwitz he should invite Katie so she can share with him her family's history with that place. Or maybe have an actual survivor give him a personal tour of it. Going there is one thing, but its so much more impactful and honestly life changing when you go there and you get the opportunity to see, talk to, and hear a survivor's account of being in Auschwitz.

Hopefully he can learn from this experience.
