Why is this ridiculously overused cliché still a thing? People have very valid reasons for being annoyed by flinging the term "cancer" around so casually.

I'm not expecting everyone take issue with it but a little basic understanding as to why some people are wouldn't go amiss.

And I'm no Bear fan whatsoever (but on the subject of your last point, I doubt this would have been defended half as much had he said it so I'd say people on both sides would be guilty of having a different response depending on who said it).

It would be added to his list of 'funny moments' for sure. We none fans must learn that we can not say anything bad about the virtuous bear, for fear of upsetting him or fans. Im speaking as the mother of a son who had Leukemia as child(he survived). I didnt find it offensive, I took it the way it was meant in that Bear is a character who enjoys spreading negative vibes around, and can be very cruel. My son hates him even more than I do and thought cancer was a good word to describe how vile he is. If Bear had said it his fans would be agreeing with him, no doubt about it, the double standards have been bad this year.

The english language is more complex than that.

So Bear being a cancer of the house would be quite a valid sentence.

I totally agree, had she wished him to get cancer I would be absoloutely disgusted and my support of her would come to a halt.

I realise it's an emotive word for people who have been touched by the disease - (that's probably most of us) - and not to be used lightly, but it's legitimate and, in this context, absolutely appropriate.

It doesn't bother me personally. I get why it could be offensive, but I wonder if that's because of less familiarity with hearing it being used in that context rather than because of different levels of experience of dealing with the disease? (a genuine wondering, I'm not assuming other peoples experience)... I just know in my own experience that I've dealt with the disease with 2 close family members and a close friend (who was only 25 when she was diagnosed and it was one of the most horrific experiences I've been through) and thinking of it is really upsetting, but when I hear the term used in this context it doesn't remind me of that. Hopefully that doesn't make me a sociopath or something :worry: but I think it's just because the metaphor use of it is totally separate in my mind.

She strongly pointed out she did not mean Bear personally,then to Aubrey she said she did mean him directly.

However again, she then when making up with Bear statement she never meant it directed at him.
So much for her word being her bond then.

I think she feels such contempt for Bear that she feels he's not worthy of the truth.

This is mainly as it is directed at a housemate they dislike though, IF it had been the other way around there would be calls for his head on a platter for being so offensive and disrespectful. Equally if Bear had said it a few who are appalled would be laughing. On season is ****ing weird and distorts all normal views to a lot of people

Having said this, my mother had (no longer has :) ) cancer a few years back and I didn't find it offensive. Slightly tasteless, but not offensive. I think she knew she had gone too far though after she denied it TO him at the end of the show, despite expanding on it to Aubrey in the bedroom hours earlier.

If you are referring to me as a crybaby that inhabits the uk that is a lousy insult. Im a grown woman that the word 'cancer' brings back bad memories of lost loved ones. I didnt think the term cancer was right to be used against another human being . I think calling someone a cancer isnt right. I am entitled to post what I want and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I've lost family and friends to cancer and I find that it's completely acceptable

I'm not overly sensitive so maybe that's something to do with it, or maybe because the word 'cancer' doesn't just mean the disease. I don't know, though. Regardless, worse things have been said, and people are grasping at straws - which is understandable, it's hard to justify anything Bear does, so instead they twist things to make him the victim.

It's not a phrase I personally find offensive, but I understand why it could be for others
