Mitchell 20-06-2017 07:48 AM

I'd say no, although there are some times that my nasty side wants a dislike button :joker:

caprimint 20-06-2017 10:36 AM

No need for one really, people would end up just liking posts instead of posting their opinion

I would have thought that the only posts it would replace are the '.' ;clap; 'this' posts, rather than the posts where people actually give an opinion, as they're the posts that the like button would be used in place of. I think most people come onto a forum like this in the first place because they want to give their opinions on things so I'd be surprised if people suddenly decided they didn't want to because of a like button. I'm not on any other forums though so I don't know how much of a difference it makes?
Could it not be implemented as a trial and if forum usage went down it could just be removed?

Good point actually. Thumbs up icons have a habit of turning me into a nasty spiteful bullying mare.

I would prefer people actually take the time to add to a discussion rather than just hit a button, that is the whole point of a forum.

And yes some members do enter threads and just post 'this' or '2' etc but even at a push that's still preferable to just clicking a button and leaving the thread again.

Feel free to browse through the many ,many threads exact same as this theres been plenty detailed explanation posted in the past, kinda gets boring constantly repeating the same thing.

T* 20-06-2017 02:29 PM

Cal. 20-06-2017 02:29 PM

Hmm could it not be trailed

Well like we've discussed many times before Tom, not everything suggested is going to get implemented especially if we feel its not great for the forum.

Greg! 20-06-2017 02:33 PM

Josy is a dictator confirmed? Most members clearly want it and loads of other forums have it and are successful so

King Gizzard 20-06-2017 02:33 PM

You could go to those other forums if its an essential part of your online posting habits to have a like button

You think every site depends on ad revenue?

Greg! 20-06-2017 02:48 PM

It just seems very stubborn and backwards to not even consider adding feature that a lot of people would like and think would improve the forum, especially when pointless features like "share this topic on MySpace" still exist. But that's just my opinion.

Nope, didn't say that, but it is a factor in a lot of cases... the ad money is put back into the site to keep it running, and if you're paying out of pocket for a site like this that's quite silly tbh

You think the amount of times this subject has been brought up it's never been considered? well you would be wrong, James was even thinking about implementing something similar a while back iirc, but hes has also worked hard and spent time on a lot of custom modification coding for this forum so that has to be taken into consideration when implanting new vb mods its not as easy as finding a mod and adding it a lot of the time.

Then theres just times when things are suggested and we just don't see it being beneficial to the forum.

Well its Mark and James business how the site is run and paid for tbh so making silly threats like the one above is pointless, there's been times when there was no ads running at all on here because of code problems..

I own 3 websites and none of them have ads implanted either because I just don't like ads and find them tacky tbh so I would rather pay the site fee's out my own pocket.

I own a website too, I don't have ads implemented but my site isn't an online community....

I don't think it's a silly threat either tbh, I think you've been quite lucky with the fact we just put up with this.

It was a silly attempt at blackmail LMAO

Put up with what? Not implementing a like button on the forum?

Jesus Christ :laugh3:

T* 20-06-2017 03:24 PM

Yes, because I clearly meant just the like button

Epic. 20-06-2017 03:42 PM

So... we getting that like button yet?

The odd post that is just a GIF or smiley is fine but constantly is not.
This is a really good example of why a like button is needed! There have been loads of times where I've waned to show appreciation to a post but haven't because of this rule.

I know this post is like a month old but I only just saw it. Quite what atrocities have we committed? How come you are still here if its that bad? Not trying to push you away from the forum or anything, but I feel like this is a huge overreaction and would like to know a list of our supposed sins to see what we could change.

I don't really see how? People could post actual opinions instead of just clapping or gifs...or pressing a like button.

I get that you are all desperate for one. I am kinda in the middle. I don't see how it would benefit the forum and I know it will be used as a popularity contest. We did actually used to have something like that on the old forum...a karma system and people did abuse that too. However at the same time, I don't see what harm it would do to have one and it would be nice to see the one word answers and constant gifs disappear...though I have a feeling it wouldn't happen like that and posts would just be liked AND GIFS posted. I think it would probably make people more cliquey than they are now. A well thought out post by an unpopular poster would be ignored, while another member posting 'I saw someones cock today' would have 30 likes D:

I for one would never like such VULGARITY.

But like being serious, I really don't think it would be cliquey? There could always be a trial run and if it's not popular or isn't being used properly it could be scrapped.

Vicky. 13-07-2017 12:24 PM

I am not sure its something thats actually easy to implement. I expect its seriously hard or James would have done it by now I think with the demand, even for a trial as you say. This forum has so much custom coding that its kinda a lot harder than in other places to install the mods, and sometimes they can **** up other features... if that makes sense?

Either way, the way to go about it is not to make threats and have a bad attitude (not saying this is you btw :p )

I know James is aware there is a demand for this. I just don't think he is going to do it right now. Plus, Josy already said no  Its like asking mam for something, getting a no so running to dad :D
