It’s a Karate-based (fantasy karate at that) soap opera, it’s not going for gritty realism so hammy/over the top acting is sort of the point and half the fun . Quote:
It was better in the third season and I think the idea is that this is a side of him she hasn’t seen that much of before… his old teenage rivalry resurfacing… and is caused them some genuine marital issues. Though in “show terms” I think she was initially supposed to just function as a grounding element to point out that the whole “warring karate clans” thing, when you actually stop for a second, is ludicrous. They only really started rounding out the character at all in S3. In fact, I’d say their female characters in general only started becoming more three-dimensional in S3. Which perhaps coincidentally coincides with its move from YouTube to Netflix. I’m still flabbergasted by the shows 8.6 IMDb rating honestly. I mean, I absolutely loved it, binged the first 3 series faster than I’ve gotten through a show in years, but as I said above it is essentially a soap opera with a relatively low budget and 8.6 is a massive rating for a TV series. Stranger Things (basically one of Netflix’ flagship shows) is 8.7 :joker:. Most shows “like this” (half decent ones) would fall around the 7.5 range. |

Ohhh that looks good. Johnny is by far the best character in that show
|
Buzzing :joker:.
|
I've got sent a code to watch the first episode of season 4 tonight.
It's at 2:30 AM UK time though. |
I loved season 4. A big win for me.
|
Loved it once again :flutter:. Everyone getting a redemption arc (even Kreese? ) just in time for silly Miggy to accidentally bring actual gangs/cartel down on them ... it's obviously going to be epic. I called this as soon as his mum mentioned the dad was a dodgy ****er back in S1, he was destined to be a villain (or linked to the introduction of a villain, if it's not him himself).
Oh and calling it now: because it's Cobra Kai, Miguel will DEFINITELY briefly be on his dad's side, before seeing the error of his ways, reconciling with Johnny, and probably teaming up with Robbie to beat up a horde of Cartel goons. Bonus points if Johnny and Daniel are also involved in this rumble. Also I'm glad someone in the writing room FINALLY got around to watching Karate Kid 3 and the part where Mr Miyagi tells Daniel about how his teachings are to create "strong root" and that he'll ultimately use that to find his own way - because Daniel San has been neglecting that part of the teaching for almost 4 full seasons :joker:. It was practically the key theme of that movie! Another thought I just had... wtf is Johnny doing for money at this point? He has like 10 students and no other job . Even if they were all paying him $100 a month that would be pretty tight to live on... |

Looking forward to this, I really enjoyed Season 4 after the floppy Season 3
|
Started this last night after I finished Power, loving it so far! I didn't realise the episodes are only 27-30 minutes long so I was able to breeze through them. I just finished season 1 and began season 2. I'm gonna try to finish by Friday.
I think I might prefer this to the original films too. It's more easier and entertaining. |
I think this must be one of my favourite ever shows.

The lasst episode I saw was when Allie and Johnny ended up on the bench at the park together and I'm not sure if I'm 1 or 2 seasons behind, so can anyone help a brother out and let me know please.

No harm that it is, It's good they're not going to over do it and make it crap
|
Yeah, I never wanted them to drag it out or for it to get too dark and serious.

There's a lot of talk of the "Miyagiverse", I think it's probable that there will be other shows set in the same universe and featuring some of the same characters or guest appearances.
It's been a massive success for Netflix and unlike something like Stranger Things, it doesn't have huge post-production or special effects overheads so they'll be keen to continue the franchise. |
Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan starring in a new Karate Kid film. I'm a bit confused by this because the Cobra Kai producers always said the 2010 Karate Kid remake was not part of the Cobra Kai continuity. |

The Cobra Kai producers said a while back that they don't have anything to do with this film. I don't want this new film to discard the Cobra Kai continuity or to merge the two clumsily.
It's from Sony Pictures and they have been trying to make their Spider-man spin-offs connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe a thing, with not much success. |

Just glad that Cobra Kai is getting a planned end so will be a complete thing in itself. Could have been a disaster if Sony had swooped in and left Cobra Kai cancelled/unfinished like what happened to the Netflix Marvel shows. |

Basically they COULD merge Chan's reboot character into the "Miyagiverse" quite easily, I just don't hold out much hope that it'll be done smoothly. Having checked, the whole IP is owned by one production company (the Will Smith one lol, which is why Will Smith has an executive producer credit on Cobra Kai despite no direct involvement) so while the actual showrunners of Cobra Kai aren't involved, it's not a completely separate project. My main worry TBH is that it'll be aimed squarely at a "kids" audience like the reboot was, whereas Cobra Kai is very clearly in the teen/young adult band and not intended for kids. |
Cobra Kai final season to release in 3 parts - first on July 18th. Second part on November 28th. Third in 2025.
Fifteen episodes in total. Trailer. |

I may just use some willpower and wait until all three parts are released before I start it :worry:. |
I prefer when shows put out all episodes at once. Gives you the flexibility of watching when you want, and can reduce subscription costs.

I do actually think the last season of Stranger Things worked quite well with a small split, they released most of it and then the final couple of episodes a couple of months later. So long as it's only a small gap of course... 4 or 5 months tops... no one wants to wait a year for the second part of a single season D: |
I heard the reason they might be splitting up shows is they don't have enough programmes after the Hollywood strikes.
|
|
ohhhh like the look of it
