Theres a photo of her swimsuit look alongside an explanation in the video. WHy are you still so vocal about it when you havent even watched it haha.

That depends on whose judging it and how far political stances gets in the way.

She didn't come close to winning, that's a fact that's stated in the video. I'm guessing, like I said before, someone blonde and buxom that looks good in a Bikini probably won, this contestant stood no chance by putting herself at a disadvantage by covering up.

She is making a religious/political statement which has nothing to do with a beauty contest. I don't agree with the concept of beauty contests anyway and they are hardly mainstream events anymore so I would have thought other events would have been more appropriate

it appears the 20 year old UK lady Maria Mahmood (she was on bbc am, before 9AM today)
has won something being a runner up.

[Maria is now looking ahead to the semi-finals, which will be held in Newark, Nottinghamshire, in July. ]

My point was about the swimsuit section where it says in the clip she remained covered, what's the point entering if she is not going to follow the criteria for gaining marks

Not really seeing the issue with this

But I have a bit of a problem with beauty pageants in general tbh, but its a bit offtopic so I won't go into it here

The swimsuit round is optional and can even be done by providing a photo for the judges, so it makes no difference.

Its all positive
Not like the Old Days

It must inspire kids, at least Vicky?

Charity events now
and getting on mainstream TV news

Someone in a hijab probably won't get very far unless there's an agenda behind the voting, so it's up to them if they wanna limit their chances:)

It's an "interesting" story, the news can run with it if they wish.

Meh who gives a s***.She’s never gonna win anyway unless it’s a mainly Muslim judging panel. No one else finds burkas attractive.Let her crack on.

In which case isn't a beauty pageant wanton and immodest since it's about women's beauty and parading around to be admired? So isn't that some sort of contradiction to the point of wearing the covering at all? I wonder how they do the swimsuit section.

This post just make me want Chinese food

I guess they can be sexy

I'm putting it out there and saying that it's not sexy.

There's a time and a place for a Hijab, and a beauty pageant isn't one of them imo.

Oh come on, beauty doesn't have to be sexy. Well maybe it does for men!

DemolitionRed 06-04-2018 05:44 PM

She clearly wasn't worried about winning. She's the first hijab wearing woman to enter a beauty contest and why not?

Are we saying we shouldn't have Coptic Christians, Orthodox Jews and Muslims women in beauty pageants because their attire makes them ugly?

Personally I don't find women wearing Hijabs sexy, it's just my preference.

I do however think that if she wants to wear the Hijab in a Beauty Pageant then go for it, if anything it will harm her chances at winning these events as it isn't mainstream.
