Otherwise it justifies top story on national news.

This is not the appropriate place for you to be confused about Guy Fawkes traditions ffs.

The Grenfell thing is in extremely poor taste and not funny at all. But story No.1 on the national news?

If you can explain what relevance it has that would be fine.

As it is, it doesn't.

No Livia, burning a guy Fawkes or taking the piss out of the tragedy of a burning building and throwing in a load or racism to boot. Are you being dense on purpose?

Oh come on Marshy.... it's the whole burning things on a bonfire relevance. It's all meaningless.

When you strip it all down and take away the politics and bollox, they put some paper on a bonfire.

Using it to pisstake an actual burning building and littering it with racism isn't the same as a cartoon figure of Boris with his bike helmet.

Well, if they stripped it down and took away the racism and politics it would be a completely different situation. But it's not.

Mocking a burning building with added racism that killed 72 is meaningless! Offseason is back a day early!

Have you listened to the comments? This wasn't an innocent burning of a bit of cardboard

We can't give up our freedoms because camera phones have been invented. 1984 was a warning, not a manual.

If they didn't include the paper figures, would it still be "racist"?

What political views did they express?

You don't think racism and the Grenfell Tower have anything to do with politics?

What political views did they express?

Why are you (and others) trying so hard to defend it? Do you even believe this would be an okay thing to do without the racism? Or do you just wanna talk aimlessly about hypotheticals? Like where are you actually hoping to get with this hypothetical question?

Bizarre behaviour from some people in here.

Oliver_W 05-11-2018 06:59 PM

I'm not necessarily trying to defend it, but it's just a bunch of idiots having fun in a stupid way. I doubt they put much thought into it, beyond imagining they were being little edgelords.

A lot of people could do with a serious knicker de-twisting.

Who's defending it?

It might be that people are just putting a different spin on the story for discussions sake.

You're smart enough to know the difference between burning an effigy of a person and burning an effigy of a tragedy. I doubt you'd be so quick to find balance had they burned an effigy of another tragedy, like say, the holocaust.

I had a feeling they would they were easily recognisable

Men have been arrested for a "public order offence" while attending a private party?

I'm going to say again, because some people think I (and others) are defending the boneheads who did this - I'm not, they are scum. But there wasn't the same outrage when Muslims burned poppies. They were also charged with a public order offence, and fined £50. Poppies represent people who've died, is someone going to tell me that's not the same thing either?

It was a deplorable act, but people's reaction is over the reaction is over the top. Should we now monitor every private party now, in case someone's doing something we don't approve of?

agree with that, the other thing about this while deplorable is why it made the top story on the London news when four stabbings since Halloween and the Mayor saying it would take a decade to tackle knife crime in London (in other words not on my watch) was pushed down the ranks

also with regard to the private party comment, yes it was but they made it public when the shared it online, whether that was shared by someone who didn't agree with what was going on or by someone who thought it was hilarious remains to be seen
