The seat was won by Labour in 2017, but the party only beat the Conservatives - who had held it since 2005 - by 607 votes. ] |
Labour - Lisa Forbes
has won the By Election beating the Brexit Party by 634 votes |
So the Brexit party couldn't even win in a predominantly leave area :idc:

This shocked me.
Yes, much lower turnout The Brexit party soared but failed to soar enough, in a by-election. A general election would have a bigger turnout and some return to likely both Labour and Conservative Parties. The majority last night is actually slightly larger than the majority in 2017. If the seat cannot be taken with the momentum gained from the European elections for Farage and his re vamped UKIP. In a by-election. That doesn't signal great chances elsewhere, hopefully. Clearly nowhere near enough strong leave voters in this by election to really break thtough then. Nice to see that arrogant, smug grin wiped off Farage's face. I thought and feared this would go to the Brexit party. On a much smaller turnout and even with dramatically falling percentages of votes, Labour actually increased their majority of 2 years ago. Despite the shocking issue of their last MP there, the anti semitism enquiry and the farce around the Trump visit plus still no clarification on a new public vote. No way did I expect a Labour win last night, not in Peterborough, which changes MPs and Parties regularly. |
